to 2460 owners

I am considering a 2460LMT. One question I have regards traffic reporting. Is it an "in your face obstruction" as it was with my 1490T?

Background: I upgraded from a 750 to a 1490T when the 1490T was introduced merely for the traffic reporting function. At the time Garmin did not offer lifetime map updates as an option for the 1490. I already had lifetime maps for the 750, which does a fine job with updating maps on the computer and on the 750 (which I don't use anymore).

So, instead of buying the lifetime updates for the 1490, I was thinking of upgrading to the 2450LMT for that reason and the few extra bells and whistles that the 2460 offers.

The included traffic reporting on the 1490, I found to be marginally useful and the ads would show up at inappropriate times, blocking out critical information at critical times. So, I bought the $50 add-on for traffic without ads and find it to be reasonably accurate.

Additionally, with the 1490, my experience is that it would hang up at the most critical of times, in busy traffic with lots of closeby exits. This could be a firmware issue that has since been rectified as I've not driven unfamiliar areas much in the past 6 months or so.

The fact is that I got a replacement from Garmin for that reason and it performed no better.

Additionaly, Ive been reading about issues with the 1xxx series and its limited internal memory and the fact that with map upgrades, Garmin has practically eliminated the junction view function.

As for the price, everywhere I've looked the price is the same as buying from Garmin - $300 ($290 at Amazon).

Why would you change?

I don't see why you are changing units when buying a traffic receiver would have updated your 750 originally. You have lifetime updates for this unit, a gTM-20 traffic receiver for the 750 is only $81.90 at Amazon.

Traffic is Traffic. It comes from NAVTEQ (mostly) and won't be different on one unit than it is on another.

I have found that the ads

I have found that the ads only pop up when stopped or nearly stopped. This can be a pain if you want to see what's coming up while stopped. Sometimes trying to click on the ad and canceling it real quick will cause a momentary screen freeze.

Here's a couple of screen shots of my 2460lmt with the ad showing.

If you're already...

If you're already purchased the $50 lifetime traffic for your 1490 you can use the same cable on your 2460. The 2460, in my opinion, is a good step up from the 1490 as is faster, has a few needed missing features, and more memory (full maps/JVs can be loaded as it's 8GB as opposed to 2GB).

If it's mainly traffic you're after, it should be about the same.

And the price is begining to drop, just saw it at Amazon for $289.99, I'll wait till it drops some more in the coming months.
