For Arizona hikers with Garmins, there's a new topo map

The great (and free! although donations are welcomed) Arizona topo map (1:24k detail) has just been updated to version 2.11. The Changelog states that additional trails have been added to the previous 2.10 version.

So if you're an Arizona hiker, it could be time to update your AZ topo map -- or to be a 1st-timer creating an AZ topo for your handheld GPS or nuvi, etc.:

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/1/

If the changelog is correct, no other changes were made so if trails are not important to you, there's no need to update your previous 2.10 version.

PS

PS--darn I wish I could edit a 1st post in a thread I create...

The topo map will need to be installed to a SD card since most GPS units won't have the space internally to add this fairly large file.

.

Very cool. Thanks for the info.

You can. When you open a thread you created you should see two tabs below the thread title - View and Edit. Click the Edit tab. Voila.

No but yes

Yes, I agree with you...except...that it doesn't work this way for the initial post in a thread. (When it's already been replied to, there's always the loss of the "edit" option, regardless of whether it's an initial or a followup post, but that's not what we're dealing with here.)

The options I have on my initial post are "Add new comment" and "quote."

Of course, you could prove me wrong by starting a new thread in one of the forums, then posting it, then seeing that you have an "edit" option. Please report back after you try...

Check out the initial post in this thread and tell me what you see at the end of the post http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33702

Oh wait!

Oh wait, your "edit" is at the top of the post not the bottom.

You are so right! Live and learn.

I always wondered why a 1st post couldn't be edited--now I see it can be as long as I look beyond (and above) the normal bottom options where I look when I do replies...

Thanks!

What I have learned is that

What I have learned is that not all first post can be edited. I've verified by looking at my previous posts that have been replied to. Most of them are editable but some aren't.

Even more interesting, but...

Even more interesting, but in this thread GadgetGuy is spot on since I can still go back and edit my first post (as well as move the post to a different forum--and even leave a "shadow copy"). Good golly, I'm learning a lot today. And it's even nice to be proven wrong by GadgetGuy when it simplifies my future here. wink

I wonder now what makes a 1st post uneditable, Chewie.

Very Nice

Thanks for the info

Not sure Craig. I found 1 of my recent first posts isn't editable (Edit tab isn't not available). There could be more but I'm too lazy to search. Perhaps it is a bug. POI-factory webmaster may be able to explain.

Time?

I wonder if there may be a time window for editing the OP and after the window expires, no editing's allowed.

[Edit] I just checked all my original threads which go back to early 2008 and I can edit each one. So if some of your OPs can't be edited, Chewbacca, I doubt that it's an elapsed time issue.

Edit or not

Maybe if someone quotes the post in a reply, it can't be edited.

Sorry, it becomes

an off-topic discussion.

If there is, old posts should be locked (uneditable). In my case, it is the other way around; the most recent post is uneditable. Old ones are editable.

Sure if it's a reply but I think that doesn't apply to original post. I may be wrong but I think OP is always editable.

The post I'm referring to is http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33914
No one quoted my post and yet there is no Edit tab.

.

My hunch is that it has something to do with the hyperlink in your post. However, I tested some of my original posts which include hyperlinks and I'm able to edit them. So I really have no clue. But my money is that its hyperlink related.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I have an older version of the map in my "hiking" Garmin. Will upload the new version.
