1490t

I just bought a Garmin 1490t, and enabled my Free Navteq traffic , I was wondering what the difference is between Free and Premium? I get no ads as it is.

My 2nd part of this question is Is Clear Channel a Good traffic software? (for Southern Ontario Canada)will it work with the same mini usb Plug that came with my 1490t?

Thanks

New York city area

Around New York City, Clear Channel is very good, in my opinion. Better than the free traffic.

The difference is the traffic content - the source of the info. Clear Channel owns a large number of radio stations and the traffic info that they gather for voice radio is also used for digital FM broadcast to our GPS.

There is no difference in hardware for Clear Channel for the Garmin nuvi.

Traffic info in Ontario may be limited to the Toronto area. This has been discussed before. Any Canadians with traffic experience around Toronto?

The ads that we have seen are (in my opinion) unobtrusive. They only appear when you are not moving. They seem to be Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Best Western, and a gas station. I do not recall seeing any the last time I was in Canada (Hamilton). What you get may be different.

Clear Channel Coverage

Here is a link to maps of the areas covered by Clear Channel -

It says Ottawa has coverage but the transmitting tower is down.

AFAIK, ads are the only difference. Have not seen any ads in the GTA (or Hamilton) in the 6 weeks we've had our 1490.

The Premium shows no ads,

The Premium shows no ads, the free only show small sized ads when you're stopped like at a stop sign or traffic signal. It doesn't bother me one bit because it is so small anyway.
