Finding Macy's

I was in Bayside, NY and wanted to find the quickest route to the Macy's in Douglaston. I spelled out Macy's and the nearest Macy's was 6 miles away. I did get myself to the Douglaston Macy's and while sitting in front of the store did another search on my Nuvi. Again, it did not show the Douglaston store. What gives? This store has been here for over 40 years.

I'm sure many of us joined this site for a similar reason. For me it was missing McDonalds in Iowa.

Built in POIs

Since the Macy's file from this site contains the Macy's at 242-02 61st Avenue, Douglaston, NY 11373, 718/225-7300, I assume you are asking about the built-in POIs that came with your unit.

No one know how the built in POIs are assembled. Garmin does not claim they are complete. For instance, the one Suburu dealer in my town is not listed (and it has been there for years).

We will likely never know why some places are listed and others are not in built-ins - BUT the ones from here will be more complete anyway.

Macy's POI

If I download the Macy's POI, does that replace the Garmin one. In other words, when I search on the Places of Interest section, will the POI sites come up. Also, if I use the POI, is there a way not to have the icons pop up on the map site. I don't need to know where every Macy's is located while driving. I have the Dunkin Donuts POI but that is different.

couldn't find the file

The built-in POI are part of the map data. Your custom POI are "Extras."

I did a general search and it didn't come up.

Search bug?????

I just did a search and "Macy's Stores" indeed did not appear. Iinterestingly, "Macy's Department Stores - Kansas City Area" was in the search results. That makes me think there is a bug in the search algorithm.

When I checked out whether the store in question was part of the file, I used my normal procedure which I find is quicker than searching. I went to POI Files, scrolled down to get to View all POI files (listed alphabetically), took that link, and then scrolled down to the "M" section and found "Macy's Stores". I wish the link to the alphabetic page was at the top of the first POI files screen to make this easier.

Maybe Jon can determine why "Macy's Stores" did not appear in the search results.

Are You Sure

Are you sure that you're not looking for Gimbels!!!

Ok, so I couldn't resist.

Macy's in Douglaston - different coordinates

i searched for the geocodes for the Macy's in Douglaston and got different coordinates than those listed in the POI.

this is what I found:

242-02 61st Ave, Douglaston, NY 11362 (zip code is different too, not 11373 as listed in POI)

latitude, longitude:
40.7543546, -73.7385742

i haven't checked it out yet but will let you know if it works out when i do.

Based upon holiday sales performance,

it sounds like we'll need to be deleting some Macy's locations very soon ...

Ridgmar Mall is closing their Macy's

But they are nagoicating for either apartments or a hotel in their spot. That would be neat to live in a mall.
Always an eating area to visit without having to go out. Always shopping near...
We live out away from stuff and that sounds nice. I told my husband if they put a hotel there we are staying there to see what it's like to live near stuff... smile
