Time zone update
That’s simply an update to the time zone map, hence the “tz” as part of the name.

My 3597 in GE shows a time map update. "gmaptz" is a time zone map.
It's also available for my DriveSmart 76. Probably available for most Garmin GPS units, if not all.

The oldest nuvi models without an 'automatic time' option do not use the TZ map.
Among the general public, your thought is likely 99.99% correct but here at the Factory where many users pride themselves on keeping their antiques running with the latest maps, etc., even though they haven't used the device(s) for a decade, many have (a) device(s) that doesn't/don't use the TZ map.
