Web Updater 2.6.12 not updating Nuvi 1390lmt

Title pretty much says it all.
I've tried twice to update the maps. It goes through the motions, but no changes are made.
My computer auto-starts each morning. I get up to see the web updater is running, waiting for me to plug the Nuvi in.
I just went through the whole process last night, so I plugged the Nuvi in, and let the updater run.
Says my Nuvi needs updating and I let it go through the paces.
Nothing changed as far as I can tell, after it finished more than an hour later.
How do I check the unit to see what version map is on it?

WebUpdater doesn't do it all !

WebUpdater does not update the maps on your GPS. WebUpdater will load the latest firmware, software, voices, etc onto your GPS but WILL NOT update the maps.

Well, the program title bar

Well, the program title bar says Garmin Update 2.6.12 and it works over the Web. It says new map versions are available, and asks me to check what maps I want to install. It takes forever to download and install huge files (maps?). Seems like a web updater to me.
It just doesn't seem to be updating anything.
Again, how do I check the map version?

To check maps version

On your GPS go to Tools>Settings>Maps>Info

MrKenFL has told you how to find the current map version on your nuvi. What version of City Navigator North America do you have now?

Regarding updates, there's a bit of a semantic issue here--yes, a map update is done over the web, but WebUpdater is Garmin software that updates firmware, voices, etc. on your Garmin GPS but it does not update maps. To update your device's map, on your computer go to myGarmin with your GPS connected to the computer, create an account if you haven't already done so, then check for map updates and perform a map update when available from this site:

Yes, map updates are large and take time. Even with a broadband internet connection, you can expect somewhere around a 30-minute download of about 2GB of data, then up to another hour or so of installation. You don't want your computer to shut down or go to sleep while this is going on. If you're having issues, give us a bit more detail and we'll see what help we can offer. And once again, have your nuvi connected to the computer before starting either WebUpdater or a map update via myGarmin and also perform the entire process without you computer going to sleep or shutting down, then things will go much more smoothly for you.

If you don't have WebUpdater software, here's a link to find and install it on your computer:

Please elucidate. Just interested.

What exactly do you mean when you say that your computer "auto-starts" each morning and that "web-updater is running"?

Do you leave your computer running or do you shutdown at night? If you shutdown, how is web updater running when you get up?

Don't sleep

On a non-Garmin software program, I was having trouble with my laptop going to sleep. I found a little piece of software called "Don't Sleep" that prevents this from happening.

It is "portable" software so it does not have to be "installed".

Find it at
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=don%27t+sleep

Ver. 2012.10

so apparently it is current, almost.
The county offices, in their infinite wisdom, renamed one of our streets, and changed some addresses. Then the department head retired. We thanked her profusely. (Yeah, right)
Anyway, that was a couple years ago, and it still hasn't been changed on the maps. Slow is slow.

Why the updater downloads and installs new maps to a current version is another question entirely.

I've had a my.garmin account since I bought my Streetpilot c530 back in 2007 or thereabouts. I see Garmin still doesn't know how to make things simple.

The only reason I bought this Nuvi is because my Wife said to get it, instead of buying lifetime updates for the SP. God love her. smile

Thanks for the info and help.
