Battery Replacement

I finally got up enough nerve to replace the battery on my 765T! I followed the instruction video over youtube.com, it was a snap, and surprise of surprises, it works! I also have to do the same thing to a 760, should be no problem. Much, much cheaper than sending it off to Garmin, and it's as good as new.

I need to replace the battery in my Nuvi 260 when I visit http://www.batteryship.com/ it shows a two pin and a three pin connector, how do I know the one inside my unit if I don't have the tools to open it?

Is there a way to know based on the serial number?

Best bet would be to contact the company to find out for sure Help@BatteryShip.com

need advice

I have a new battery for my Nuvi 260 coming in this week and was wondering what will happen to Favorites when I remove the old battery, should I load the Favorites to MapSource beforehand or are they retained in memory while swapping batteries?

...don't know about the 260, but it's always good to keep your Favorites backed up, especially since it's so easy with Mapsource. I have two sets backed up: the nuvi roadway Favorites and the eTrex (mostly hiking trailheads) Favorites.

Being the master planner that I am, I tore into my StreetPilot without giving any thought to what would happen to my POIs, Settings, and Favorites once the battery was removed. Fortunately everything was intact once the new battery was put in.

I'm guessing your experience would be the same, however it would be a good idea to keep a copy of everything you do not want to lose.

my 765t or my 775t, all remained intact! Good luck!

intelligence

Are our units intelligent enough to stop charging when full? I know with the 660 the battery lasted about 6 mos before failing. On the 2350, it's usually plugged in as well when in use. The only time I run it on battery was in someone else's vehicle, be it at home or on the road in a rental....

Got-R-Done

Ok battery came in today and is installed, so far so good.

The favorites stayed in memory while changing the battery as a couple here commented, just in case beforehand I loaded them in MapSource.

The case is not as easy to open as shown in the Youtube video http://bit.ly/jVUBGB the plastic tool lost its shape soon after I started prying the case open; it took longer than I expected and had to carefully use a flat screwdriver to complete the opening.

After opening the case realized that I was using the plastic tool incorrectly, the trick is to push hard and twist not just place in the groove and twist.

I added a couple pieces of double sided tape to the new battery to hold it firmly in place.

I got the answer

I called batteryship.com and was told that 99.9% of Nuvi 260 use the 3 wire (pin) connector, if after opening my unit I found a two wire they would exchange.

WOW! After replacing the battery I let in charge on the PC for two hours, after disconnecting I started simulating a trip two hours ago, the battery still showing full charge with all the bars intact, the most the old battery was giving out lately was about 10 minutes.

If you had any doubts about the after market battery being any good this should put your concerns to rest.
It ran on simulator mode with a two hour charge for more than 5+ hours before warning of low battery

Similar Results

I replaced the battery in my 660 last year with one I bought from batteryship and saw similar results. Their replacement battery was certainly as good and probably better than the original battery. grin

After ordering a battery for my Garmin 250 from Amazon.ca, I went to the seller site
http://www.batterybuyer.com/

and found they have quite a selection.
