Police Radar Interference?

I was on a trip the other day, was using my TomTom 540XXL and all of a sudden the screen of the TT displayed a triangle and what appeared to be a pause sign and then went blank. At about that time, I looked around and noted a Police Car on the side of the road facing my direction. I am assuming his radar gun was on when it hit my TT. I can't verify that this is what happened, but it sure was a coincidence. I took a few minutes before I was able to get my route back on the screen. A similar circumstance happened a few days earlier while in a different state. Each time, it rendered the TT useless. Has anyone else experienced this?

Interesting...

I'm interested to know if this was the case as well. I have not had any issue that you have mentioned but I would think if it was true, then it may happen to the Garmin brand as well.

.

I could see how the RF energy from a police radar might cause interference with the unit's reception - but it would *not* cause the unit to go blank. You would see a message saying something like 'Signal Lost' - and even then it would taken quite a few seconds of continuous signal loss (probably 30-60) before it would appear.

Not to my unit

I had about 7 occasions in the past week where I was hit by police radar units during our 1200 mile trip to NH from FL.
I know I was hit since my radar detector went off - and the radar unit was quite close as I could see the policeman aiming the gun.

No Problems with my Garmin 1490 !

Might. Depending on what exact circuit inside the unit is affected. If it is one of the "computer" circuits instead of the "radio reception" part, all KINDS of funny things could happen.

Radar Interference?

I"ll have to give my Garmin Nuvi 1450 a try on my next trip and see if I run into the same situation. Maybe it is a TomTom nuance. I've never experienced this with my Garmin units.

Radar

Radar interference?? No way, Jose!!

Never happened to me

I travel quite a bit for work and have been blasted by all kinds of police radar and lidar units. My Nuvi has never blinked at any time during my travels. I use a radar detector so I can tell when their units are active.
