Custom POI Icons

I just got a TomTom Indash (Eclipse) and I am looking to put custom POIs on the unit. I see how to install the POI file but how do I add a custom icon for those files?

Sorry, but I don't have a TT and am unfamiliar with them.

In case you haven't seen this yet, here is a link to the TT FAQs on this site and includes a link to TT's website instructions. Hope it helps.

I have a different model of Tomtom than yours, but I assume that the design approach is the same, so I'll tell you how I do this. I apologize in advance for any differences between models that invalidates my suggestions.

Select an icon that you wish to use. Make sure that it is in BMP file format and that the maximum dimension in either dimension is 42 pixels. (I have read that the maximum is 22 pixels for some models, but I do not know this as a fact.)

Rename the icon file to exactly the same name as your POI file except for the extension. Example: "MyFirstPOI.bmp" goes with "MyFirstPOI.ov2", "MySecondPOI.bmp" goes with "MySecondPOI.ov2", and so forth.

Using your computer's file management tool ("Finder" on Mac computers, "Explorer" on a PC), copy the icon files into the map folder on your Tomtom, which is the same place that you copy the actual POI (ov2) files.

Your custom POI files should now show up on your Tomtom, along with their associated icons.

About the Eclipse

The Eclipse is terrible! As a car stereo it has very poor controls and is hard to use. Radio reception is weak. Ports for Ipod and USB are short wires in the glove compartment - basically unreachable. There is no aux port and though I was told it can be added on - the part has been discontinued. Customer support is non-existent. The TomTom screen can be tilted up but not angled toward the driver so it is pretty much not visible while driving. Also the TomTom cannot be shut off - it is always on when the vehicle is running. I have had a TomTom in the past and gave up on it. Because my new vehicle came with the Eclipse as standard I am once again stuck with TomTom hoping it will not route me into parking lots as my old TomTom would do.

Did it work the same on your model as it does on my XXL540? i.e.: Do the POI icons show up as intended?

-et- your instructions are good for all TT's, except the new ones with a navcore 10.

Thanks for the confirmation. The XXL540 is the first GPS we have owned, and we acquired it only a few weeks ago, so I'm still on the early part of the learning curve. I've researched how to do various things with the XXL540, but I wasn't certain to what extent those techniques applied to other models.
