Alaska

"If anyone plans to do the land tour.Do it first then the cruise.Gives you time to rest up ." (charlesd45)

We flew into Anchorage; round trip train to Denali; flight to Juneau; RT boat to Glacier Bay N.P; flight to Ketchikan; sea plane adventure; flight home. Two weeks of solid splendor.

In Juneau we saw our Carribean cruise ship from '92 pull into port. The tour people motored in and then back out while we still had time to go to Mendenhall Glacier.

Did what we wanted at our pace. Cruises still are a nice way of travel though.

Wonderful weather!

As much as I like nice weather, it's also time to break out the pressure washer to wash winter off the house. Now, that I don't like.

Alaska Cruise?

Did a similar cruise years ago (2004), but in very late August. In fact, I think it was the last week of 7-day cruising (from Seattle to Juneau and Prince Rupert). For us, the temps were fine with jeans and a sweatshirt or light jacket fine for most of our time, or even just a T-shirt. But cruising into Sawyer Glacier, at the front of the ship like we were, you definitely want a jacket. Gloves and a cap would've been much better. It's so visually cool, you want to not miss a thing, but it's cold.
Also, if you take a smaller boat (in Juneau) to see whales, and/or visit Mendenhall Glacier, you'll want a slightly warmer jacket.

We took 2 large suitcases, and a cosmetic bag. Mst rooms are quite small, but you'll make do. The bathrooms are tiny.

I was just looking back at some of the pictures/ It was a great trip?

Make sure to have binoculars and a poncho with you.Plus get a room with a balcony.I have some pictures of whales and a seal floating by on some ice taken from the balcony.
