I had two fender benders with two different cars and after they fixed them, they looked better than before. Jiffy Lube x-threaded my oil drain plug when they put it in and could not get it out. Hong's auto service center fixed it for me at a fair rate.

I want to start putting more places in this file and will need your help.

I know that it has been a while since I last updated it and I added all the past requests that were entered here now. So lets get this tread back up and being active again.

It might be a good idea a while ago. Now a day, with smartphones on over 50% cell phone users' hand, I'd rather just find one from consumer review website, such as Yelp, before I get in the door.

Really excellent idea! Hope I can contribute.

I would value the opinions of my fellow POI Factory members over those anonymous sanctioned accrediting companies. Beside, having it in my unit beats seeing 19 and having to do the research... I try not to travel with a computer (and I still have a dumb phone). I travel with a GPS... Better to look at it than to look FOR it.

I think there should be separate POI files for
1) top rated auto repair places
2) best value auto repair places
3) places to avoid? -- might not be necessary as they will sometimes go out of business but could be helpful.

Maybe source's like Angie's list or Checkbook if you are the US would be a good starting point.

Just saw on the news that Companies are now paying for Bogus Reviews on places like Yelp. I always knew this was a practice.. So I always looked at the worst, then decided if it was really that bad..

So I will keep this up.. In fact.. I should have a updated poi in the next few days for anyone that wants it..

EDIT: I just Posted a new File but Will re-post if I get more Location for anyone.. Yes, you do get credit for helping out with the POI!!

There's a lousy auto repair shop in Boston called Parkway Mobil. Oddly enough, if you read the reviews on Yelp you'd think they are so good they can raise the dead, but all the reviews sound the same and use the same language patterns. They obviously paid someone for the bogus reviews.

BTW, you will also find bogus paid reviews for apps on Google Play.

I drive parts for a GM dealership a couple of days a week and I know a number of very good independent repair shops and I also believe my dealership does a great job.

I will start compiling this.

The best shop is in your own garage. No one cares about your car and will take the time you would for yourself.

We could all make bobkz job easier if we did the geocoding and then submit.

I want to update this POI but need your help... Can you give me your best place to get your car/Truck/etc. fixed and maintained.

Once I get your information, I will make sure you get credit for the input!

Loosely related to this forum, I had a pleasant surprise at the dealer (who is typically much more expensive) the other day: Honda was picking up the high tab for this repair beyond the warranty. One of these repairs they pay without advertising is.
So it doesn't hurt to check a dealer first and then choose!

I'm sure that there are members here that have worked in the printing business that could give you a hand with what's needed/missing.

They do just about every mechanical job they come across. Buses, cars, diesel trucks and pickups. Prices are expensive. If you decide for him to do a job he will offer you a ride to any place in town. Very nice folks. Gets the job done with some sort of warranty.

That is a great idea. I am always looking for honest, reliable, and reasonable auto repair shops that I can use.

I actually made one (Beta testing) for my older car but since replaced the car...

It was a simple sticker - On the Left side was the windmill Photo as you see here, then on the right hand side I had "Proud Member" then underneath, I had POI-FACTORY.COM. I had people asking me about it or told me they heard of this site and ask more about it.

The Project never really took off but maybe we can try again.
I still have all the files that I created.

I am very very picky when it comes to auto mechanics. I drive a Gen 1 Ford Taurus SHO and not everyone can work on my engine. These guys are the best. The youngest mechanic has I think 10 years experience. Smart, honest, experienced mechanics with tons of experience.

We had one of those until the transmission blew up (it was a '94 3.2L automatic, may have been a Gen 2). Great car, but the automatic transmission was pretty much crap.

The best place in this area was unfortunately, a dealer. Bob Bell Ford on Richie Highway in Glen Burnie. There is/was a mechanic there named Marcello - he owned at least two of them and knew them inside and out. Car was a serious pain to work on... I replaced the thermostat and diagnosed/replaced the camshaft position sensor myself along with a few other relatively minor repairs (O2 sensors, etc.) but when the crankshaft position sensor went out - it went straight to Marcello.

I think I'd rather replace a heater core than an SHO crank sensor, and that's pretty bad...
