Error notice after POI loading...HELP!!

"there was an unexpected error during the creation of the custom POI file"

This is all it said, nothing else that would give me any clue whatsoever, of how to fix the error. Never have seen this before.

Can anyone help me find out what/where this error is and how it can be mended? Thanks much!

Well...we need more

Well...we need more info.

What program caused the error?
Does the error occur when you run the program again?

POI Loader

Which version of POI Loader are you using? I've been having trouble with the latest version 2.6.1.0

I was loading...

some new POI files that I need for an upcoming trip, on my computer, and went to load them to my Garmin, and that message came up at the end, instead of the usual "You have 73,825.... I have taken all of the most recent new POI's off my computer, thinking that might be the porblem, it wasn't! I went back to the 2.60 loader, and that also did not help. Don't know what else to do but contact GARMIN tomorrow, unless I can find the solution here. Thank you!

POI Loader

Try 2.5.4 again.

If this is the first time you have run the new loader, it will be a slow process to find the errors. You need to run the new loader against a single file, then add files one-by-one correcting errors as the loader barfs.

The problem with the 2.6 loaders is they don't tell you what was wrong, they just barf (and for some of those out there it just ABENDs with no error message,)

The one good thing about the new loaders is they are fast, but it's still laborious.

You need to either load the

You need to either load the poi files 1 at a time to find the bad file or you can split them in half. Load 1 half at a time to see what half errors out. Then work on that half.
It is a slow process but the only way.

What pwohlrab said, plus ..

What pwohlrab says is likely the qiuckest way to resolve it. You can run POILoader in manual mode and exclude files one-by-one (by unchecking them) if they are in the same directory and you don't want to move them around.

Going back to v2.54 may work without an error message, and may make you feel better but trust me when I tell you that if there is an error in the file you won't get all of your poi's and/or info.

You need to see which file(s) are the problem & then we can figure out the solution. You will also need to know if the problem file(s) are csv or gpx since this generic error has multiple causes depending on the type.

Went back ...

to 2.5.2.0 did not help. I suppose I'll just call Garmin tomorrow...let them figure it out.

Thanks for your help.

"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

I did it...

...with a little help from my friends!

I loaded 3/4 of them successfully, saving the others in a TEST folder. I then loaded 2 at time until the last two. Taking them seperately, I deduced that the newest file in the last one was it!! Voila that was it!

Thanks again "pwohlrab" et al for your help, it was quicker that I had thought.

That is great, but

Was the file from POI Factory? Have you found what in the file caused the error?

Also if you went back to 2.6.0 I think you should reinstall 2.6.1

I cannot recall where it came from...

in fact, I don't know why it was where it was. Almost sure it didn't come from POIFactory!
I did reinstal 2.6.1. and used it. Thanks for the reminder!

No....

I never found out what went wrong with the file. I was so happy that it worked...no longer cared!
