Update Mapsource Maps Help Please!

When you connect to Garmin to update your phone, there is an option to install the maps on both the computer and the phone. I don't remember where it is exactly, but it's an option such as doing a custom install.

EDIT: Did I really say phone? Must have gone blonde for a minute - well, platinum blonde at any rate!

When you download the lifetime maps you should see a option to download both to the computer and the gps.Go back to My Garmin page and select download to computer. https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

Thanks! I am downloading to computer now.. What then? Dow do I get them into Mapsource? Stupid question for a geek but help file is no good.

Look for the option to download just to the computer. It's on the bottom left, second screen?

Mapsource will load to your computer.Just click start,programs,Garmin and you will see Mapsource.

Mapsource is now updated as well.

Good work. Now, with each future map update, be sure to click the Install Options and choose Install to GPS and Computer since the default installation is to the GPS only.

If your computer's hard drive starts to get a bit full, individual maps can be uninstalled from the computer and Mapsource (for PCs, I'm not sure about Macs) using the normal Control Panel's uninstall feature. I tend to keep old maps installed. That way, I can zoom into a particular location, then swap between maps to see if roadways have been altered, built-in POIs changed, etc.

If you're not logged in as an Administrator or equivalent UserID when doing a map update, the Install to Computer option will not succeed, even if selected.
