Garmin Lifetime Maps for $76

I bought Garmin Lifetime maps yesterday for $76 from Amazon.com. Just sharing the deal..

Steve

Not such a great deal....

If you are in the market for a new gps buying the lifetime maps only is not a good deal anymore. The price for a new gps with lifetime maps has decreased unbelievably. If you have a gps you are happy with I guess it is ok but if it is old I would buy one of the new units with lifetime maps...just my opinion...I just bought a new 2450lmt with all the new features for $198...

lifetime maps

Bought mine cheaper at amazon a few weeks back. under $70 as I remember.

Might Be A Good Deal for Steve

Steve has a 260W and 265WT. The 265WT is a superb unit, so a lifetime map purchase is no doubt a great value for him. I'm not familiar with the 260W but like you say, if he is happy with his units, the Lifetime Map purchase is a good way to go.

Consider that if he gets 3 more years out of his GPS, the Lifetime Map purchase becomes $25/year. Sweeeeet!

the price

on both the lifetime and one time goes up and down on amazon all the time. The cheapest I have seen the one time was around $30

Thanks

Thanks for the info...

I never update maps but rather sell old unit and buy a new one

It's good to know when there

It's good to know when there are good deals. Thanks.

The problem is that there are several large changes in our area - new highway called the Intercounty Connector (ICC), but I doubt that it's in the new maps since not all of it is open yet.

Fred

Lifetime Maps price

WOW - $30. That's a fantastic price.

The best I've ever seen is $56 on Amazon.

$30.00?

Wow! Who had them for that price?

I have also found if you

I have also found if you have a few extra dollars available it is better to buy a unit with the lifetime maps..

LMT

The LMT is worth the extra price. We recently purchased a new unit on sale at Best Buy and the LMT unit was actually less expensive that tne regular unit.

Yup

The 260W will be replaced this week by a 1490LMT.

I will not 'buy' maps for a while..

Steve

I agreed

I rather sell the old unit then buy a new unit. I'll get both map and hardware updated. Some new unit come out with lifetime map too.

Keeping old unit

If I didn't already have lifetime maps on my 760 I'd go for this - it's a good price. It's good to give folks a heads up on the pricing.

There is NO WAY I'd want to trade my 760 for one of the newer units. The 760 is rock solid, does everything I need, and does things the new units don't do. When my 760 was lost/stolen I looked into getting the latest and greatest Garmin available. Price wasn't a consideration. NONE of them did what the 760 can do so I bought another 760.

I have a Nuvi 750 and after looking at what the others don't have that I do I sure do hope mine works for a long time. Do so love the mp3 and the routing.

I destroyed the screen in my 260W on a stupid accident, so I bought a 1300LM. I don't have to deal with maps out of date anymore grin

There are new streets in my area that show in the 1300LM that I didn't have in the 260W (only did the one time update). Paid the same I paid for the 260W years ago, but I got the map updates for free now.

New units are getting so inexpensive; I'd just get a new GPS if my maps were too old.

The last unit I got was like $150 and included lifetime traffic and maps. I love how cheap these have gotten!

Add S&H and you're back to $80 like Amazon

Just sayin'

It is a long time to wait but before Christmas lifetime maps on Amazon will start dropping again and go down to the mid $50 range again.

New GPS

I love the Nuvi 750 I have. If I buy a new gps with lifetime maps can I take the maps and register them to my 750 instead of the new unit, or is the lifetime map already linked to the new unit when I buy it?

Lifetime maps are tied to the unit you bought them for.

That is what I was afraid of.
Thanks.

not true

A new unit with lifetime maps comes with a card to register the life time maps. You can use this card to register the lifetime maps with ANY Garmin unit you own, but you can only register the maps to one unit. I did the exact same thing. I bought a 765 with lifetime maps and registered the maps to a 255 W that I already owned.

Not totally true....

I just bought a 2450LM and there was no card to register the lifetime maps. When I registered the unit it knew it came with lifetime maps....I think Garmin is tying all there new units this way to prevent people from transferring Lifetime maps to older units or they are trying to save the expense of including the card...that is my best guess.

So, the only way to know if it comes with a card is to buy one at a store so I can look in the box before I buy?
Thanks

If you have a unit that doesn't come with lifetime

this is an excellent option. It pays for itself within the year.

When I bought my 765T a year ago it DID come with the card for lifetime maps. Maybe they have changed that policy now. I guess the only way to know for sure is to look in the box.

Don't know....

All I am saying is my 2450LM had no card. It picked up the lifetime maps when I registered it...Maybe that is something new as the 24XX series are the latest models.

yeah, the lifetime is definitely a better deal than the 1 time thingy. I got the lifetime last X-mas when amazon had a $10 off deal.

One of the things that drew

One of the things that drew me here in the first place was the search for cheap Lifetime maps. Now, with my Evo often superseding my Garmin for nav, I can't see myself paying for new map data. I came so close to buying last summer too. Fortunately, my greed for the lowest price ended up paying off in a weird sort of way.

They must have dropped the price, I paid a hundred bucks 2 years ago.

The lifetime map is now $82.42 at Amazon. Seems strange for it to be going up!!!

Price fluctuations not unusual for Amazon.

Amazon prices go up and down all the time ... sometimes multiple times in a day on the same product. I have often wondered what criteria they use to trigger these price changes.

Best price!

That $73.99 from http://www.autonavdirect.com/ is the best price I've found to date on the lifetime updates. Cheaper than buying a new GPS if yours is only a year or two old. Otherwise, consider buying a new LMT version.

Lifetime Maps

Thanks. I will look into this. Seems like a good price.

I got an 1490T as a gift in

I got an 1490T as a gift in December. I think the giver thought I was getting lifetime maps with it. I had been disappointed in the past purchasing updated maps that didn't fix my known problems of new exits not marked and 2 "stacked" highways that the GPS thinks is one road. The worst was it trying to have me cross a river. I assumed some sort of flood had made a street disappear.

Autonavdirect.com followup

Just a followup on my experience with Autonavdirect.com. When you purchase the Lifetime Maps Update, you'll receive your invoice in an email from them. You're supposed to respond to that email to let them know you got it. Then they're supposed to send you the Garmin code by email by the end of the next business day.

If, like me, you don't receive the code within the designated time, you can call or email them to fix the problem. ALSO, you can go online to their website and check your account information. In the record of your transaction the download code will be noted. That's what I did and it worked like a charm.

Still the best price I've seen anywhere, and they are reputable. That counts for a lot these days!

Just ordered Nuvi 2450LM. Can't wait to get it!!!
Can't believe I made myself buy it. I bought my Nuvi 750 in 2007 ($500) and it still has the original map.

Not a lot of difference in the price of the Lifetime maps and the new unit (about $100).

So now I will have a new toy to play with.

Hope I like it. Going on a road trip this fall from Teaton to Yellowstone to Keystone so will need it!!!
