Radar Speed Cameras

I live in Decatur Texas just north of Fort worth. We have a radar camera they set up by a van in a little bump in the road called Rhome Texas. I read in our little local news update today that The Texas Legislature this week passed a bill sponsored by Rep. Vicki Truitt of Southlake that would ban the use of “cameras-as-cops” in speed enforcement. The bill is expected to win final approval in the House today.
I suppose that would mean all of Texas. I don't think it affects the red light cameras though.
To be honest, I rather have
To be honest, I rather have a cam then a cop.
Cams don't move and they are always there, so you can set an alert. And you don't get points if you happen to get hit.

Rarely seen
I rarely ever see them set it up. It's so publisized I don't see how they catch anyone. I suppose it's more out of towners.
or the careless, I ran
or the careless, I ran through a speed trap last week and got busted, I was looking at the gpsr and I heard the alert from my RD, but ignored it thinking it was just stores...dumb me

Funny
It's kinda funny but I remember a buddy of mine running from the highway patrol a few times when we were in school. He got off everytime because the patrolman lost sight of him and said they couldn't ticket him without possitive id. I suppose the pic is good enough. I know it's all a revenue thing, but if we weren't guilty we wouldn't be in that position in the first place.
That's not true. You can
That's not true. You can get pulled and ticketed for something that isn't true. For instance, you may have been going 10 over, but the officer ticketed you for 15. That is why I 'try' to drive smart.
Whenever I am on a trip, I have RD and CB with me at all times (except when I fly, I can't carry the CB with me). When I hear of a trap, I am right on or below the speed limit.

been stuck
I heard that. I've been ticketed for speeding when I wasn't. I look at it this way, He stuck me with a 10-15 mile an hour over when I wasn't guilty but he didn't catch me the many times I was way way over that. It all evens out. We're all pretty much guilty we just don't always get caught.
I hear ya, you sound like my
I hear ya, you sound like my father...lol.
However, no matter how many times I speed (which is more then I go the limit) I don't want a ticket and I will do all I can do (except for slowing down) to protect myself from getting one.
That being said, I don't mind as much getting a ticket when I am purposely speeding. But those that you didn't even know that you were speeding, now that really sucks!

out of my system
I'm 37 years old and I still like speed but I've pretty much worked it out of my system. You used to could pretty much as crazy as you wanted. There's way to much traffic on the little farm to market roads now. It takes all the fun out of it. If you don't come accross a trooper or wreck out someone calls in on you. I figuire it won't hurt the world to wait a little.

Same here except that I'm 52...
speed cameras
One problem with the speed cameras, especially the one in Rhome, Tx is that it's mobile. They don't set it up in one particular spot. You really can't set an alert for something that's not always there.
BTW, the bill was passed.
Not doing anything worth a darn.
NY
anybody knows of any speed cameras in NYC?
Thanks

It's good to know they eliminated it. Mabey it'll catch on and they'll work their way up to getting rid of the red light cams.
Speed
Where is everyone driving that they get ‘speeders’ for 10 or 15 mph over the limit?
I’ve driven on major highway’s in NY - the LIE (I-495), the NYS Thruway (I-87) and in NJ - the NJTpk (I-95) and the Garden State Parkway where the speed limits range from 55 to 65 mph. I’ve done 65 when the posted speed limit is 55 and passed radar cars without getting chased for excessive speed. I do 75 on the NJTpk and have had 18 wheelers bear down on me because I’m going too slow!
The rule of thumb is: the speed limit is the rate of speed that the surrounding traffic is moving safely at!
If you’re doing 45 in a 30 mile zone (town or city), or 60 in a 45 mile zone (semi-rural area) then you deserve a ‘speeder’. If you’re on an interstate and cruising along at 65 - 80 mph and keeping up with the traffic flow just how much faster do you need to go?

Unfortunately cops have quotas and it is up to them to interpret when and where to setup the trap. Follow with the flow does not necessary means you are safe as once I encoutered a gang of 7 patrol cars that pretty much nailed everyone that just "followd the traffic".

...and the officer does not have to justify stopping just you. Just because your "keeping up with traffic" doesn't mean he can't just pick you out of the wolf pack. It can and will happen.

Why would someone want a limited device

Why would someone want this when for the same price you could get a GPS and load files from this site, and keep them up to date? I doubt their data is any better than Miss POIs.

Radar Speed Cameras
I am in So. Cal. and have not seen or heard of any set cameras. We have the L.A. County Sheriffs on motorcycles with their portable radar guns. Around my town, we have a pretty good idea of where they tend to set up. One favorite place is In & Out Burgers in the morning. I was able to fight my radar ticket because of the California requirement for speed studies that only allow use of radar when the majority of cars are within the speed limit during the study. But, if they get you in a school zone, you don't have a chance to use this defense.

Officer I'm sorry I was going the wrong way on that one-way street but my GPS told me to turn left ... Oh, I'm still getting a ticket, okay then the GPS will see ya in court!
I will have to shoot up
I will have to shoot up there and find them. I love finding RADAR, gets me all excited.....unless I am speeding and get pulled.
