My alerts are virtually useless

Yesterday I downloaded the Red Light Camera POI file to my NUVI 350. This afternoon I did a test run of about 25 miles back and forth to my office and a client.

1) The alerts come on VERY far in advance. In a dense urban setting such as Queens NY where there are lights on almost every corner, the alert some times comes on 2 or 3 blocks from the actual camera. This is not good!

2) In the immediate vicinity of my home there are about 5 or 6 cameras. The alert comes on even if not traveling in the direction of the camera, example, While traveling west on a street one block north of the camera pointed south the alert came on. This is most definitely a bad thing to happen.

When you load them into the GPSr, you can set the distance to whatever you want. make sure that the POI Uploader is in manual mode.

Asianfire is correct

Set the distance in the Manual load. The default is too large of a distance. I had them going of on the light before the one with the camera in some areas. I reset mine to 500 feet and am considering lowering it to 400.

Oh my goodness, I had a nightmare that there was a new redlight camera at a major intersection I need to pass in order go to work, and I dreamt that I would get flashed by the camera every day. I woke up in a cold sweat. Guess I'm not moving to Queens. It's my nightmare coming true...

good question...

What seems to be the most utilized / effective distance to set the proximity for the redlight cams? Or what distance is the most commonly prefered?

I don't regularly travel through the "redlight" districts. I am planning a trip that will take me through Philly, NJ and NYC.
