Rest Areas Question

I have the Rest Areas POI loaded on my Garmin 1490T. I get alerts for rest areas on both directions of the turnpike - which is fine, however, when I was in the car lanes with the truck lanes divided on the right side along the actual side of the road I no longer got alerts about the rest areas. Perhaps they were too far off then to the side? Or is there some adjustment that needs to be made to the file? They are set in with a manual distance of one and a half miles.

Is the file set as TourGuide?

Give us more information about how you set up this POI.

If you set it up using the TourGuide technique with a distance of 1.5 miles, then you will get alerts if you are within a "radius" distance of the rest area (which might even be on a parallel highway).

If you just loaded the file as-is, but used a "manual" distance of 7920 feet, then we need to know that.

I did not use tourguide for

I did not use tourguide for the Rest Areas file. I put it in as is with the distance set manually.

If you are using the combine rest stops http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643 the author has the coordinates set at the entrance ramp. What location are you having the problem at?

Mine acts almost the same

The file works about the same on my GPS. I get alerts for both sides of the NYS thruway. Then I will sometimes not get an alert for the side I am on. I have set mine for 5280 feet out in manual mode. I need to test further, but I am thinking maybe interference from the big rigs. I suspect this because I will sometimes drop my cell signal when I am to close to them.

Alert text

I assume that both of you who get the alerts on the other direction of the turnpike know this from the alert text. Is that right?

Thats correct

The text has EB or WB in it.

Do you get both?

since many times the rest areas are opposite one another, do you get both?

At Some Locations, Yes

If the divider between traveling lanes is narrow so that the rest area on the opposite side is fairly close, then yes, I will get both alerts.

I resolved the problem by

I resolved the problem by setting the Rest Areas as a Tour Guide file in my Garmin. Now it displays the Rest Area alert when it is within a two mile radius of my location. I tried it yesterday on a trip along the NJ Turnpike and all of the Rest Areas came up no matter what set of lanes I was in. It is not a problem getting the alert for rest areas on the opposite direction of the turnpike. They are clearly marked NB or SB and staggered in such a way that you know which is yours and which is not.
