Elderly See Pedestrians Half as Often as Younger Drivers, According to New Research.

As I said in another post I am 63 and have no problem being tested when I am 65.

I do know Pennsylvania

You seem to indicate in this post you like facts, but yet I have not seen any from you that show that it is ok to drive in the left lane when not passing, or that this only applies to emergency vehicles....
My guess is that you only like the facts that support your opinions, not all facts.
Tonight on my way home through the Special Place you haven't heard of in the US (Pennsylvania) and I saw someone who was driving in the left lane (not speeding or passing) get pulled over smile

I do know Pennsylvania for it takes forever to go border to border. I have to drive through it to get to the East coast and I have been to Cleavland at least 5 times and drove across many more.
Could you please tell me how you know as a fact that the police officer pulled that car over for driving in the left lane and not for moving aside to let the officer pass. On my last trip to Chattanooga I saw a policeman coming up fast behind me (and I was speeding) so I changed lanes but he sped by and he did not have his lights on. Further down the road he was directing traffic at a collision.

Arizona Licenses

Arizona does give out licenses for a long time. But when my wife and I went in together to renew a long time back, since my wife is younger she got a longer extension, my extension went until I was 65. That must mean there is a law that makes anyone in AZ who is 65 to come in and have their eyes checked. I'm not sure if they have to do a drivers test or not.

arizona driver license renewal

for everyone over the age of 65,renewal is required every 5 years......renewal is an EYE TEST only .....

just renewed mine in feb 2010 and expires on my birthday in 2016.

i just hit the big 80 (eighty),and admit to slowing down a bit on my follow thru and sometimes run out of gas around the 16th hole, but other than that no discernable difference than a few years ago....

age is important only when:
1 selecting wine
2 selecting a block of cheese
3 transporting a female across state lines

I like the Iowa way

"3 transporting a female across state lines
Shouldn't you add "Wife doesn't count"

I realize right wing nuts are trying to create a non problem into a problem but in the great Republican state of Iowa the rules are"
1. Visit the nearest driver's license station. Call ahead to confirm business hours, since smaller locations may not be open Monday through Friday.
2. Complete a vision screening.
3. Take a written test if your license has been expired for more than 60 days or was suspended.
4. Take a driving test if your license has been expired for more than one year or was suspended.
5. Pay the license renewal fee of $20 for a five-year license. For drivers younger than 18 or 70 and older who are issued a two-year license, the renewal fee is $8. Credit card or debit card payments will not be accepted.
It is called KISS or KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

We're safe drivers

I'm with you, Mike. I couldn't have said it better.

Iowa ain't all that Republican.

Gov. Chet lost 'cuz he was stuck on stupid. The 2012 election will be interesting in terms of control in the state legislature. There needs to be an end to the "Gronstaling".

And now the really scary thing.......

I just finished reading all the posts and the really scary thing is that overwhelmingly, the contributors are in their "old Phart" years - I qualify at 62. Does that say something about the site?

It seem hilarious that here we are talking of OUR driving habits and yet we are the ones with the garmins, cell phones, cool cars (alright a prius is not necessarily cool but you get the idea) and I bet we are also the ones with the money to travel by car....maybe, just maybe, some of the laws should/could be skewed to favour us "more seasoned" driver - at least the insurance companies favour us!

I have an old neighbor who

I have an old neighbor who wanted my advice on buying a GPS to get around town. This was in a small midwest town, where she's lived about 77 or so years. Why would she want a GPS?? Because she can't see so well and wanted it to tell her when to turn. And she wanted a really loud one because she doesn't hear so well either. I did not offer to help her with the GPS as I don't think she should be driving around like that and have told her that. I understand about the independence.

you did the right thing

Hopefully so did her family smile

Already the governor (Braindead) has a negative approval rating so the Republicans have to stop worrying about a womens vagina and produce jobs or they will lose big time.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHOSE WIFE YOU ARE TRANSPORTING

Just remember...

"They" will become "You" someday, so be careful what you wish for. As a 67-year-old, I have no problem with being tested for my driving competence on a regular basis. Just remember we're all in this car together!

Old Fart

I am 71
I have no trouble being tested every year.
There are some 18 Yo's out there that should be tested also

cell fons/coffee.

You are really brave,(young females) chauvanist. I totally agree it happened to me just yesterday,no child, no deputy just a patch of ice,she landed in the ditch. I, reluctantly, stopped she was ok just a split lip and a bad hair job, the car was a whole other story. I am pushing 71 pretty hard, arrived at my destination as I have for the last 53 years without any insurance claims. psst it always apears to females.

Left lane

jmkthird wrote:

I would like for you to show us the law that states that you are allowed to drive in the left. I will await your response.

Thank you in advance.

the left lane was the "passing lane" and you were not allowed to drive in it for any length of time...

I am a, transplanted, limey are you telling me not to drive on the left?, probably explains my insurance rates!!!!!

30years

Limes give it for life(or death, which ever occurs first) it is only a tax anyway, the cost of adminstering the project proved to be more than was taken in revenue.

Nice

Nice smile
