Garminfone On Amazon $319.99

Apparently the Garminfone is now gone from the T-Mobile website and the Amazon price has dropped to $319.99. That is how I got my Garmin Nuvifone G60. When it dropped to a slightly more reasonable price, I bought it on Amazon. Gee, wouldn't it be ironic if they also disabled the cell part and also resold it as a GPS. The G60 was re-marketed as a Garmin Nuvi 295W. Maybe the Garminfone will become the Garmin Nuvi 395W! Well, after they put a blob of epoxy inside or whatever else it was that they did to cripple the G60 to make it a 295W

Garminfone On Amazon $319.99

It is an Android phone that has Garmin Lifetime Maps that work independent of the cell phone carrier. Actually, as no contract cell phones go, that isn't such an outrageous price. Most people in the US, however, get caught up in the cell phone carrier subsidized phones. They brag to their friends, neighbors,a and relatives, "I got a free phone!" What they don't always mention is the "free" phone usually involves a 2 year contract commitment to have service, including a data plan, for 2 years. (Some "free" phone, huh?) So for someone that doesn't want or need a data plan, having the maps on the device without having to connect to the internet is huge. Someone that uses T-Mobile the pre-paid plan can get by pretty well without a data plan using this. The other thought is even when you have a data plan anyway, if you are out of coverage area, the Google Mobile Navigation and many others are of little value. Also, many people, myself included, have a preference for Garmin style navigation. And, yes, I have tried others. I am not saying that Garmin is the best, but I happen to like it the best for me.
