Try closing the window that opens for the download, and then try again. I had to do it 2-3 times before I got the new downloader app.

How To Install Maps On 2nd PC?

Before Garmin went to the "new" map install process several releases ago, I used to download the "whole" map update (2011.10 was the last one like this). Then I would connect my GPS to my 1st PC and run the install. It would unpack all the installation files, install the new maps on my PC for MapSource along with any updates to the MapSource program and finally, update the maps on my GPS over it's slow USB 1.1 interface.

I would then copy the downloaded file to my laptop, connect the GPS and run it again. When it started installing the maps on the laptop for MapSource, I could disconnect the GPS after it was detected so that I didn't have to go through updating the maps again on the GPS.

How do you do that with this "new" installation process?

Right now, I've downloaded the 2011.40 update on my desktop (I selected to update both the PC and the GPS) and also checked the box to leave the installation files on the PC, although, it didn't say where (folder or path) these files would be left. How do I now find and move these installation files on the desktop over to the laptop so I can install the maps there for MapSource without reloading them to the GPS? Will it even work?

I'm trying to save the time of re-downloading from Garmin AND re-loading the maps to the GPS a second time.

Garmin Drive Smart 55 - Samsung Note 10 Smartphone with Google Maps & HERE Apps

Finished Updating 1 PC And My 660

As I've done in the past, here are the free space stats on my 660 before and after the 2011.40 map update.

The new maps will overwrite the previous one. HOWEVER - each map release is bigger than the last which means the free space gets smaller and smaller. I have been tracking the amount of free space left on my 660 with each update. Here are my free space figures including this latest update:

For the record, this was the amount of free space remaining on my 660 with each of the mapsets I've installed:

New, with 2008 maps - 540MB
After 2010.10 update - 428MB
After 2010.20 update - 394MB
After 2010.30 update - 379MB
After 2010.40 update - 365MB
After 2011.10 update - 270MB
After 2011.20 update - 252MB
After 2011.30 update - 217MB
After 2011.40 update - 176MB

I did not have to delete any of the "optional" files like voices or vehicles to make this version fit. I installed all of North America which includes Canada and Mexico. grin

I am getting close however to having to delete some unnecessary files, or picking a region NOT to install. neutral

Now, if I can just figure out how to use the file(s) on my desktop to install the maps for MapSource on my laptop without reloading them to the GPS. confused

Dang, I download the new version and there must be something wrong. My house is at the same location as the previous version. What a bummer!

REALLY IMPRESSED

VMFA, it is a well established fact that Garmin's map vendor (Navteq) is slow to do updates. Also, you may want to go to the Navteq website and report the error. They may not even be aware of it. I reported an error with my house over a year ago. I am downloading the latest update now but I'm not holding my breath over it (nor does it really matter that much to me). But most folks say the map updates take 1-3 years. And I think I've seen some say up to 5 years in some cases. Just be sure to report it to Navteq right away. I can't imagine that they have staff driving all over the country looking for errors.

That's the county's fault, not Garmin or NavTech's.

Really, why? And besides, if I send the corrected info to Navteq, why wouldn't it be updated?

Odd

Just updated my 265WT, and now updating a brand new 1350T refurbished. As we all know, the 265WT (and some others) now have Mexico included in the North America maps. This 1350T does not. Weird!

Where do you think they get the info from? It does take a while for Navteq to process changes. The changes have to be verified first.

If you sign in and don't see it....

Sign into my maps. If it shows no updates like it did for me look at the top of the page and it shows "download history". Neither of my units showed an update. I went into download history and both were there available for an update.

Question on the new update

I am a fairly new GPS owner who recently purchased a Garmin 1490LMT. It offers lifetime maps which Garmin defines as being able to do 4 free downloads per year. How often do they come out with these updates? Is it only 4 times a year or more often than that? Any info appreciated.

Lifetime Map update Frequency

You can expect map updates a maximum of 4 times a year (roughly quarterly). It can also be less than 4 times a year, Garmin won't be held liable to a specific number.

Does this mean the World or at least North America is expanding every year? smile

naming scheme

The typical naming is to take the year and add .10, .20, .30, .40 to the end. Maps are updated quarterly, so 4 updates a year. Currently we are on 2011.40, so the next will be 2012.10 unless there is a fix released for 2011.40.

2012.10 should be released in about 3 months.

If you have downloaded and installed 2011.40 on your GPS then it has already deleted the previous map version from the 'unit'. Most Nuvi's don't even have enough space to hold more than one map version at a time.

Your myGarmin.com account is listing all the available map updates for your unit. It is still showing 2011.30 there because it can still be downloaded for one year after you first downloaded it.

Ok strange it looks like the map loader moved the previous map(2011.30) on to the my SD card? because if you remove it it disappears off the screen on the GPS then if i reinstall the SD card it shows back up to be available for use.

is that righ?

Garmin nuvi 350 Lifetime Map Updates NT 2018.10

IMO

IMO it's more likely that you installed 2011.30 on the card at some point as the normal map install process wouldn't have done that. In any event, if you don't want 2011.30 any more you can delete it from the card, no harm done.

No i did not,i never loaded 2011.30 on my SD card that's strange, i have my POI's on it and that's all i don't know how the map got there.

Anyway i have two files on my SD card, one is a gmapsupp IMG file 79,744KB and the other is a GMA file 3K, i want to delete the old map so can get my space back on the SD card and i'm thinking the old map is the IMG file correct?

Should be although the file size isn't big enough to be the full North America map file. Just move it to a folder on your PC first. Once your sure it's the right file, delete the folder on the PC.

Slow...

You may want to leave that gmapsupp IMG file on the computer for a while to make sure you're not deleting a map you want or need. Gmapsupp files are other countries usually.

Actually

Juggernaut wrote:

Actually I believe that on an older Nuvi like the 350 or 660, gmapsupp.img is the only valid file name for a map file on the SD card. It's not like the newer models where the .img file can have any name as long as the file resides in a folder called Map.
