Coordinates conversions

There doesn't seem to be a standard on how the gps coordinates are given when i consult the guides and internet
some
36° 5' N 115° 10' W

some
N42 09.762 W78 17.779

How do i convert to the standard
-xx.xxxxx,xx.xxxx that i use to create my POI files
Is there a software that can help me

Thanks

Extra POI Editor

I use the Extra POI Editor. It uses Google to find the location then you just press the Grab button to capture the coordinates and save them to your file. I always use Google Street View to confirm the exact location.

There are numerous conversion programs available on the internet. Some are down loadable and others can be used right on the internet.

You could do it with a simple calculator:
You have it in the form degrees and fractional minutes.
Divide the minutes by 60 and add to the degrees.

Example: 9.762 divided by 60 is .1627
Add to 42 and you have N42.1627

And 5 minutes divided by 60 is .0833
Add that to the 36 degrees and you have 36.0833N which is the same as N36.0833

Try here

Sorry, didn't understand what you wanted. Thought you were just creating csv files. Sounds like you have coordinates in a book or magazine you want to be able to enter into a csv file.

Try this site, pretty straightforward

FizzyCalc

Google for fizzycalc, it's free and it doesn't have to be installed. You enter a coordinate in any format and it will give you all possible conversions. If you do have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll zip the exe and send it to you.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

GPS Sway

I use a program called GPS Sway. You can get it here:
