Procedure to download and install all available POI's?

Hi everyone,

I just bought a garmin 1490LMT and 2gb SD card. I'm wondering if there's a way to download the entire POI database from this site and load it on to my new Garmin. I notice that there are many different files available and would prefer to download all in one sweep every few months instead of picking and choosing each file/category. Please let me know, thanks!

Bad idea.

No, not practical......for various reasons, not the least of which is that they likely wouldn't all fit on your card.

The idea IS to pick the ones that will be useful to YOU. Many of them certainly will NOT.

I suggest that you test out the built-in POI database for a while first and then take a look at whats listed here. After doing that for a while, I found that what comes with the unit is good enough for me.

Just get a few

There are litterally thousands of POI files available here and they would not all be helpful.

I agree that you should try out the built-ins to get used to navigating a route.

However, my experience has been that the built-ins are not as up to date as I needed and indeed did not provide some things I wanted. For example, the Suburu dealer I use was not in the built-ins.

Where the POIs on this site excel is for use on trips. You might want to download the file for several hotel/motel chains that you prefer. Perhaps you like to stop at CrackerBarrels on the road. If you have kids, then McDonalds may be your choice.

Take your time.

Welcome

Pois

I see you just joined the Poi Factory.Welcome to the site.

Once you look through all the files you will find it would not be a good idea to download all the custom pois at one time.Just take some time and go through the ones you might be interested in.The ones you download will show up under My Favorites located top right of page.Updated files show in Red New for latest update in My Favorites. You may want to look at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for custom pois.

Look into using PoiSync

Welcome aboard,jjohan35

After you have decided on which poi files you want to download, you may want to automate the updating of them by using PoiSync.

Note that the link to download PoiSync changed over time so be sure to read through the whole thread.
