Editing CVS Files

How do I edit a CVS file downloaded from this site? Can I edit with Excel. I am using Excel 2007. After I edit, what format (workbook, 97-2003, cvs comma delimited) do I save it in so that it works properly?

editors

To name a few, you can use notepad, word pad, excel, the excellent "Extra POI editor" and most any text editor.

You need to save your file as a csv comma delimited in Excel.

Another option

Microsoft Works also "works" well ! The Spreadsheet

As charlesd45 said, you can use Excel. To save the file in Excel 2007 click the Orb, then Save. (for Excel 2010/2011 click the File tab to open Backstage view, then Save).

You will then see a message box warning you that the file "may contain features that are not compatible with CSV (comma delimited)". Click "Yes" or press Enter to save the file as CSV.

edit POI files

Other posts offered other options such as Notepad, Word pad and MS Works. I wanted to bring up another option Openoffice smile

And still MORE options

OpenOffice is a good alternative to MS Office/MS Works, especially for CSV files...

And yes, there are still more options.

CSVed (http://csved.sjfrancke.nl/index.html) is a very lean, mean solution for CSV editing for Windows.

And if you're into editing CSVs via handheld devices...

WinMo: Pocket PC versions of Office exist, including Excel.
Android: QuickOffice or DocumentsToGo
iPhone: Killink CSV Editor
Blackberry: CSV Table Pro

And if you don't want to install a program at all, Google Docs happily imports CSV and can export to CSV (and also allows online storage).

Some responded to the first question.

His first question was more general: "How do I edit a CVS file downloaded from this site?" smile
