SD card problem

I am a new user and have purchased, formatted installed an SD card for my Garmin 255W. When I connect the GPS unit to the computer I do see the card register as a separate drive. (I have saved a few things on it).

My problem is that when I turn on the GPS I don't see the things that are on the card (vehicles etc). Do I need to change something in the setting?

I would appreciate any help. Thank you!!

Directories?

What directories are the files in on the card?

Directories (Folders)

The SD card has to have the same directory/folder setup as the device. In other words, you need a \garmin folder and everything stored under it in order for the unit to display it. As a note, one thing it will not pick up is vehicles. Those have to be in the main unit.

Folder Name to use?

So how do I know the "\garmin folder" name to use on the card?

What items are you trying to put on the card: photos, audible books, ??? POIs will be installed to the card's Garmin\Poi folder (although POI Loader should handle this for you already). I think the 255w handles photos well but can't play mp3 audio or audible books.

I would like to put some POI's and some pictures.

SD card

For the custom pois see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32010 and pay close attention to number 15 to select sd card.

We'll need someone familiar with the 255w now. On my nuvi 750, I think they'd go into a \JPEG directory (not Garmin\JPEG) but in my nuvi 855, I think images go to \Media\JPEG (once again, not Garmin\Media\JPEG). I'm not sure how your 255w handles them. Can you look for jpg images on your nuvi? Once you see how the 255w handles them internally, you may know how to put them on the SD card.

POIs will be loaded to the card using POI Loader--don't simply copy the POI file to the SD card.

I have a 265WT and it is

I have a 265WT and it is very similar to the 255. I put POI's on the card via POI Loader. POI Loader will make the necessary directory for you. I put pictures on the card without putting them into any directory at all. I just drag-and-drop them to the card and they show just fine.
I hope this helps.

How I Do It!

First thing I do is download from Garmin the POI Loader and save it to my desktop! I then make a folder named POIs and save to my desk top. Then to POI Factory, save the POIs I want to folder POIs on my desktop. Then to POI Loader, click Garmin Device, next, which will find your SD card (mine is G:/) next, then download the POIs. Hope this helps.

Norm

For installing POI's, see

For installing POI's, see this:

Poi's can go either to the SD card or to your garmin.

.

Note that the "vehicles" need to be placed on the unit. They won't be read from the card.
