2720 showed location to be off route

Has anyone had this happen? Was running a route that I made using MapSource,US64and US13 in eastern NC, Was on the road I was supposed to be on but the gps showed I was way off to the side(maybe a quarter mile), but it showed the road I had plotted on the screen highlighted so I know the road wasn't to new to be on the mapversion8 that I have. Just wandering why.

2720 showed location to be off route

I have had this happen to me in Alabama and in GA near Athens, GA. I don't recall if it showed me way off the road but it told me I was off route and wanting to recalculate. I was actually on the road I was suppose to be on.

This almost never happens but it has happened about 3 times on my 2720. So far, it has never happened on my Nuvi but I have not been to the area where this happened on my 2720.

Confused Nuvi

I don't know but lately (last 3 weeks) my 660 has done some crazy stuff. It chooses routes that make you scratch your head. It takes me in the opposite direction of my destination. It takes me off of roads/highways and directs me right back onto them.
It asks me to turn at a location (which I do) and then proceeds to recalculate. What the?!
I've been through the menu a half a dozen times and found nothing that should make it act like this.
Today it put me on I-76 east (the road to hell) and recalculated. This little joy ride tacked on at least 12 miles to my destination.
I think I'll buy it some flowers tomorrow:)

Confused

Is it possible that you were using the FM traffic unit and it was just looking for an alternate route?

Dear Confused

Yep, my Nuvi 680 seems to get alot of confusing moments lately...........Like going around in circles looking for a Sheetz that isn't there...recalculating........almost makes you not want to trust it in strange town.........could lead right into the enemies territory..........Dave

Try The Reset Button

On the Nuvi, under the antenna flip-up - hit the reset button, and see if that clears things up. If it does not, then when your unit is on the main menu, hold your finger in the upper right corner, on the time for at least 6 seconds...that should initiate a diagnostics mode. If you're curious, scroll through the various screens...otherwise, power the unit down, then power up again - it will take some time to get a satellite lock, so be patient and let it do its thing...once it's up, use normally. And if it's still flaky after that, a call to Garmin support would be in order.

Inventory Help

kch50428,
can you put your Nuvi in diag mode and hit the more button on the version information page. Do you have any that say Error or erased? I have a few. This might just be my issue.

Thank you for your help.

No. We were out in the middle of no where on us64/us13.Its a divided 4 lane. The unit showed the highlighted road that I had routed but the pointer showed us to be way off the road. This happened going east on 4/26 and in the exact same place going west on 4/29. I could follow the tract the tractlogger left. A couple times on the same trip, it would say make uturn then recalc. and go back to the way I was going. If you can't tell, I'm new to this, but trying to learn. Even with the little hiccups, I still like the 2720.

sammig: Did it

And...

I have One erased item - x-loader; one failed item, splash screen - I changed from default; one error - "FTL Image".

Fairly New Roads

It might be because a new stretch of roadway was opened up between the time the map was made and when you got there. I've had this happen a number of times especially as states open up new sections of four lane roads going through the boonies.

The highway has the same name/number but has moved from the old location. Even if the new section has been open for a number of years it may not have made it into the latest map updates.

That's actually a good explaination. There is a highway north of Dallas, don't know if it's even completed yet, but parts of it are parallel to the old road while some sections are being routed further from the original. When done it will of course have the same numbering designation, hence the arrow would show you to be off the road when in fact you are on the new roadway and the mapping has not been updated yet.

Talked to an IronButt Enduro rider today that uses a 2730. He said basically the same thing. Makes sense.
