Map on SD card in nuvi 350

I have a nuvi 350 with a Europe map, but there is not enough internal memory for the map after a map upgrade. I have bought a 2 GB standard SD card, but when i start up the GPS after having installed the map on the SD card, it crashes. It does not crash when the SD card is empty. I have a subset of the Europe map in the internal memory, so i have map files both on the SD card and in the internal memory. Anyone who can tell me what is worng and how to make it work ?

Suggestions

You might want to get Miss Poi to change your user name so that isp not shown.

Next, take a backup of your unit before we start trying to free some memory. You might want to sell the unit sometime and it is nice to be able to restore it to original condition AND you might just delete someting by mistake (and not know it) and we would have a really hard time trying to help you.

There is a FAQ on backing up you might want to read.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394

By the way, if you do not yet have a full user manual, follow the instructions at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393
to do so. At that FAQ there are some setting suggestions for your computer to make using POI files easier.

Once you back up your unit, you can consider deleting files that you will not be using. There are languages you do not need under "Text" files. There are "Help" files in lots of languages you do not need. You could delete vehicles you may not want. There are "Voices" you could not understand and can delete.

Be careful when you delete, but you should be able to get a fair amount of internal memory freed.

Was there anything on the SD

Was there anything on the SD card before you loaded the new map on it? Try this - copy the map off the SD card onto your computer - just to hold it there for this test. Next, delete the map from the SD card and format the card. Now, install a custom poi file onto the card and see if your Garmin crashes. This will tell you if there is a problem with the particular card and not the Garmin. If this works then move the map back to the SD card and see what happens. If it still crashes then call Garmin support.
