Speed camera file and alert distance

Someone wrote a few weeks ago how to convert the speed file so that I can choose a specific distance for all the alerts to go off. I looked through my old posts and unfortunately cannot locate that thread.

Could someone please explain how this is accomplished, I've tried several times and can't figure it out.

Thanks smile

Not sure what post but I open in Extra Poi Editor and use the replace all to put distance in and save as a gpx.

Excel

It was done in the file itself without using Extra POI Editor.

Use POI Loader - manual.

Use POI Loader - manual. Check distance alert and then fill in the number of feet away that you want to get the alert.

The file has recently changed

and doing this in POI Loader doesn't work for the speed file. It used to but unfortunately doesn't anymore. Not quite sure why they made the change rolleyes but I guess there's a good reason.

@Canuk

[quote=canuk0The file has recently changed and doing this in POI Loader doesn't work for the speed file.

The only change to the file recently was the adding of a speed setting. If you display the file, you will see the last characters in each line is @xx. This gives you a speed warning. If you don't want that warning, use the following Excel function:
LEFT(D1,FIND("@",D1,1)-2)

I would insert a column between B & C creating a blank C, paste this into C1 and then copy it into the remaining cells in the column. Select the column, copy the data, and then do a "Paste Special: Values" back over the top of the data. You can then delete Column D (the unmodified data) and load it into your unit.

Thanks Box Car

for your suggestion smile

After many attempts and tries I finally stumbled on the method that another member suggested a few weeks back which is the following:

1- Open speed file with Notepad
2- Edit
3- Replace
4- In research box put @
5- In the replace box leave it blank
6- Replace all
7- Register the new file

Your now able to set a specific distance for your alert to go off as in the past cool
