POI package and BMP image

I have downloaded the RestAreasCombined(Ver.AD)POI package and the Bitmap image for it. I have renamed the bitmap image to the same name as the.csv file. Should this cause the icon to appear for the rest stop entries that were loaded for the POI package, or am I not doing this correctly??

This is my first time attempting this. The POI package has installed to my Nuvi 1200 device fine, I just can't seem to get an icon associated to the POI's

Thanks

first off

Welcome to the site.

There are several tutorials on the site which cover how to load POI files on your 1200. This one is in the FAQ section: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/85

There are a couple of things to watch for, I will assume you are using a PC and Windows.

1. Windows, as a default hides some file extensions. Among these are MP3. WAV, and BMP. Use the Control Panel and be certain you remove the check mark from the entry "Hide Extensions of Known File Types." This will help you fix the most common reason icons and sounds don't work, and that is double extensions.

2. If the POI file and icon (.BMP file) are both loaded together from the same source folder, the icon will display on the map when you reach the trigger point. These do load as Custom POI and are not searchable from the main screen under POI. They are found in Extras, Custom POI.

Good luck.

you may have to zoom in to see it. about 200 feet

Garmin does not show the

Garmin does not show the icon on the screen unless you are zoomed very very close. There is a way around this. If you set the proximity alert on the rest areas file when you install it to your Garmin using POI Loader you will then see the icon come up on the screen when you get to within your alert distance. You will also get the default alert tone unless you also install a sound file of your choice for the alert (including a silent one if you want no sound alert).

Once you get the bmp files

Once you get the bmp files loaded correctly you may want to read through this for some tips on the icons. http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.05.htm

I Don't recommend

I don't recommend setting up the Rest Areas Combined POI file as a TourGuide.
#1 The coordinates are set so that when you set up the proximity alert distance to a reasonable distance you WILL get an alert and the icon will show.
#2 Probably 80% of the Rest Area locations have a sister Rest Area in the opposite direction which will alert also using TourGuide.
I set my alert distance to about a mile and it works fine.
