Yesterday my 3790 (with the latest updates installed) was at the pin code screen and I spoke it's name and the voice command screen came up and allowed me to "view map." It totally circumvented the pin code.
This is my first garmin with voice commands, so I don't know if this is the normal operation. If it is I would recommend to people to change the activation phrase to something other then the default, or having a pin is pretty useless.
.... or having a pin is pretty useless.
Sorry, but I have yet to see one report where someone smashed a window, broke into a car, found the GPS cleverly hidden in the glove box or under the seat, but didn't steal it because it was "locked". The pin code is indeed useless, unless you want to have your GPS stolen and then experience a brief sense of self satisfaction over it.
Someone else will have trouble using the GPS when it is stolen. That will give me the satisfaction that they did not get anything for free, even if it is lost to me.
That's why it's called a smash-and-grab not a smash-and-test-to-see-if-it-has-any-type-of-lock-preventing-me-from-selling-it-to-a-fence.
Maybe the thief won't be able to find a pawn shop in the poi's
Ones only hope for a locked GPS is the person is stupped enough to return the unit to Garmin to have them unlock the unit for them.
