What happens when you install red light camera POI's into a Nuvi that already has Garmin's "Safety Camera" database?

Would they conflict with each other? Would they both give off alerts? Or does Garmin's version need to be removed?

cool

The best way to handle such is to merge the two files and delete the duplicate... if the garmin file is gpx or csv you can use Extra POI editor to get it done.

If not you will get two alerts for some or many!

I would have to extract the Garmin database from the GPS.

Does it need any special program or is it simply copying a file from the GPS?

You can download Extra Poi

You can download Extra Poi Editor at http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor. When you download the program if you get message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download.

1.Under file select open for first file to load.
2.Under file again select merge open for second file.
3.Both files should now be loadedto EPE
4.Under edit select find duplicates.
5.Follow pop up tabs from there.

How do I get the Garmin database out of the Nuvi, so that I can merge it with POI Factory's database? Once merged and loaded back into Nuvi, would it overwrite the original Garmin database?

Which models come with the

Which models come with the database FROM GARMIN?

none

You have to purchase the DB as an add-on to any unit.

The 37xx series comes with a "safety camera" trial.

I am not sure for how long, after the trial you would have to pay to continue to use it. Back to my original questions: is there a way to extract the database from the Nuvi?

No

Flux capacitor, 88 mph and the two files

A old chevy vega or anything else you have No DeLorean needed, and you know the rest of the story!

How frequently does Garmin update?

Curious if Garmin issues a free and easy to install bi-weekly update to their red light camera database razz

Turning the Garmin version off seems the best approach to me.

I would think you would get double alerts

Based on your settings, you might hear the redlight warning up to 8 times! lol

And some of us do...LOL

old thread but

I decided to buy the Cyclops last week. It almost seems like my factories no longer work.

Way back when, I got two alerts, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to be the case. What I could do as an experiment is to remove the Cyclops again--it's a matter of deleting all pois, and reloading.

The nice thing about Cyclops is that it gives you that bubble that tells you you are .4 miles, .3 miles......0 miles from the speed or rlc.

So does this mean

That you will wait to maybe 1/10 mile before you think about stopping for a RLC or slowing for a speed cam? smile grin

A tenth of a mile is 528 feet. I don't think you would be traveling at any speeds that would require that much stopping distance for a red light camera.

I look at it a bit differently. You ever have to squeeze a vehicle in say in Manhattan, and someone is spotting for you? It's like they're waving for you to move up, move up, move up, and their gestures are all the same, until you bump the other vehicle.

The distance to the device is a graceful way of warning you. That's just me. smile

You will get transported into a fifth dimension, with only your GPS to guide you.

Seriously, you'll get alerts for either list, and two alerts when they coincide.
