means "Media Transfer Protocol". It is a method of sharing files between devices without having the device's memory mounted as a drive volume on a computer. Garmin has been including this file sharing method on its newer devices. If you dig through the menu system on these units you will find a setting that allows you to either access your device via MTP or as a drive volume.

I suspect Garmin at some point will remove the option of accessing the data on new devices as a mounted drive volume and use MTP exclusively. It will be a shame if they do this as it will restrict users from doing many of the tasks they can currently do with their nuvi's. TomTom has already incorporated a similar restriction in some of their new devices.

Not a problem. I hope you got your answers. It does seem though, that few, if any, updates will be available for an old c550 from WebUpdater or myDashboard.

If you can't recall where and when you posted somply do the following:
Click on "My Account" (upper right hand corner)
Then click on "Track"

This will bring up any posts you may have started or participated in.

Worst of all she uses frequently and I don't have a clue why. As far as I'm concerned I do everything right except for reading assembly directions.

First it wanted me to upgrade my window media player to version 11. In order to do that I had to validate my windows XP . It gave me a number to paste and window media player installed. Restarted webupdater and I keep getting MSI file not found. I only keep this older system for backup so I installed webupdater on my windows 7 system. NO NEW UP DATES found for my 255W. 2 hours shot to hell. I don't like installing updates on the old system without backing up before hand. Just wasn't planning to do all this BS.
