Talking about S.O.B.

jmkthird wrote:

So true!

That is the same reason why the S.O.B. Ted Kennedy R.I.P. was in the senate for 46 years, he was good for the people of Massachusetts while screwing the rest of the country.

The people he was screwing could not throw the bum out and that is why term limit is needed in Washington.

Ah yes, the consent of the governed...

ROBERT F. BREUNING wrote:

Yes well, voting lends the outcome the veneer of legitimacy but what is a system that only allows you between two choices and moreover those two choices have to be vetted by the national committees of each respective party? Seems more an illusion of choice more often than not and that your vote then becomes an endorsement of everything that is done in the name of the winning candidate.

Of course, you can vote for the losing opponent or any other write-in for that matter, the so-called protest vote. You might feel good afterwards and put your faith in two of other three components of government to act as a check and balance on power but who hasn’t realized that often the three parts function in collusion, that when a politician speaks of reform that it’s only a temporary measure to assuage the masses all the while the middle class is being assaulted because without a strong middle class in a system such as ours we would become as slaves in our own land.

We have squandered our liberty with temporary pleasures while our institutions have suffered. When you have a system that is flooded with money it’s not difficult to see its corroding effect, that monied interests that cannot be voted in, nevertheless, are in effect put in power by the candidate of their backing.

It’s all too easy to fall into a pattern of mindless repetition of slogans and other knee-jerk reactions without using the God-given capacities of critical thinking and reasoning that should characterize the skeptical citizen. For example, globalization might have the short-term effect of providing a source of cheap goods but the long-term effect is to impoverish us all. It’s a quandary because on the other hand, protectionism is no better.

It’s not necessarily seeing the solutions to all problems but walking with the clear thinking that cuts through the illusions put in our path by the professional manipulators of power. One tactic used by the professional thief is to give with one hand but to take with the other. What have you sacrificed to gain temporary respite from fear or uncertainty?

When one speaks of a duty to country I believe you have to question what that means and part of that means a question of your identity and of your basic beliefs. For me if I were faithful to the ideal I would have to say that identity begins with notions of family. The preservation of family is a bulwark against the raging storm around us. It begins with this basis unit and emanates outward. The source of power should reside here, not to be forced upon us through mandates imposed from without.

That I believe is your true duty.

Sometimes comedy and comedians can cut through to the root cause of the problem. Or at the very least, the radical (Latin radicalis "of roots" or radix "root") points out the absurdity of the situation.

Go Vote!!

Listened to a group of people complaining about our local Scholl Bond Issue this morning......Interesting......They all thought it was important, but none of them had gone to vote during our early voting, and to make it totally wrong, none of them knew where to vote on the actual election day!!!

Don't just complain.....do something about it!!

Today Is The Day!

Today is the day... go out and vote and make your choices count.

I grew up reading Heinlein - fantasic stories! The central heroes most often had the same, very simple characteristics: a strong sense of self-reliance, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Of course it is easier to write about those attributes than it is to demonstrate them in real life. But the musings of Lazarus Long were always a source of inspiration to me.

As a proud Canadian, I wish the people of the United States the good fortune to elect the best candidates possible - regardless of party affiliation.

I guess when I type rapidly leaving out an m of a double mm in a word and an o in a double oo word it could mark me as a mentally challenged person in the eyes of some. However, in my eyes it just means I have other things that require my immediate attention that leave me short of time to proof read my posts. Voter Fraud in Illinois

My friend was informed that she had voted a few days ago. She spent 1/2 hour with voter officials. They finally decided to let her vote using the ballot of the other person of the same name. I'm thinking the court house people did not follow the rules about ascertaining the name AND address of each voter.

Well the people have spoke

The movement of the country has been going in the wrong direction the last two years, since you know who was elected.
It just goes to prove you can't push crap down the throats of us that don't want the crap to start with.

Thanks to all that voted. And to all that cast an educated ballot, that took the time to study who was best for the jobs. Unlike two years ago.

I'm sorry, it wasn't me, it was the powerful unions here that outspent and flooded the news with fear.

Massachusetts voted back the same cast of characters that put our state in the position it's in now AND they voted to keep our sales tax high. The fear was that jobs and services would be lost if the taxes were lowered. Mass. has very little private industry, but has huge fed. state and local employees.

Luckily most of our other states did a better job.

Were you born in the US? Are you Native? Those are the original Americans.

If not, you have no reason to try to shame others.

All "native" Americans came over a land bridge. There were no indigenous people on the American continent. Take a class -- even make it a class concerning the "native" Americans -- or an anthropology class.

I can agree that there's no need for terms considered a slur but I also disagree with those who insist they're "native" to this continent.

The use of the term to which you object doesn't, however, negate the truth of the statement. Those in this country illegally should NOT be allowed to falsely obtain voting rights.

The country has been moving in the wrong direction especially for the impatient amongst us that thinks the tremendous hole dug by the previous party in power for eight years could be reversed completely in two years. The economy is recovering from that fiasco, albeit slower than most would hope. Hopefully the Party of no has inserted new blood that is willing to compromise and get things moving forward. Otherwise we have accomplished nothing more than ideological gridlock that isn't in anyone's best interest.

Time will tell if we have leaders and statesmen/women in office or more people that can't wait to give sound bites and little else.

Well put!!! We didn't get into the hole overnight, and we will not get back out overnight... Has anybody really looked at the stock market lately? It's over 11,000 (more or less) and that equates to a pretty good economy. Job growth is slow, but it'll take time to get back on its feet. Part of the problem is that people are not spending like they used to is all. Instead of spending at a 5% more than they make rate, people are actually saving at a 4-5% rate, meaning there is less being pumped into the economy. People are afraid, and the republican party just capitalized on that. Like someone posted yesterday on another forum, "I think that we are in a world of cr*p my friend, and the stupid plumbers that messed up the bathroom the first time- are back." About sums it up for me....
