Nice

I read somewhere else that Elk Grove Village is going to turn off one camera but still collect accident data for a year. They may also consider other intersections for similar treatment.

Red Light Cameras

I live in a suburb near Lombard and it seems there have been an explosion of Red Light Cameras in the NW suburbs of Chicago the last few years. The RLC poi's are the main reason for my coming to this forum. It is simply great and very much appreciated. I think that due to the economy that the local villages also have their traffic officers out in force with a reduced speed from which they used to use to give speeding tickets. I have always been a fan of GPS, but was ambivalent on radar detectors. I just purchased a radar detector that has gps and actually has the Red Light Camera locations loaded. It also requires a yearly paid subscription to keep them current. Hoping for the economy to turn around so that the villages will lay off on their increased revenue generating practices. Just another tax they are collecting.

Lombard Ill

I agree that there are far more RLC intersections. This past weekend, I drove through Algonquin and Lake in the Hills, Illinois. I was aware of a couple of RLC intersections, but now there are several more. I updated my Garmin, and I'm going to drive there soon to make sure all of the intersections are current.

Even if the economy turns around, I doubt the cameras are going to go away. Only if the revenues decrease, is when the villages decide they're no longer necessary.

Oh I hope they go away. I get nervous driving through them. I have one I drive through several times a week on the way to my girlfriends in Warrenville. I try to avoid it as much as I can, but I have to go out of my way to do so.

Here's a great story about how revenues are dropping in some places in IL. There are a few I come across when I am out weekends, and I'll stop and wait for it to turn green, even though right on red is permitted. I see a lot of people do the same, and nobody has ever gotten bent over having to wait.

You're proud of that?

What part of common courtesy didn't you get the memo for?
