Nuvi 37xx Bluetooth Issues

1 - Given the fact that while driving we should be texting (or dialing) less and using hands-free devices more, I am quite disappointed that the new Garmin Nuvi 3760 (and probably the 3790) doesn’t support the Bluetooth profile PBA (Phone Book Access) when paired with cell phones with that capability. We need to be pressing less buttons to make a call – not more. The 3760 does not collect the phone’s contacts after a few seconds or minutes as does a Nuvi 780, but DOES allow users to dial all 7 or 10 phone number digits.
2 - Also, my 3760 does not always automatically connect to previously paired phones. If, for instance, there are 2 phones that have been paired with the unit, the unit will connect only to the LAST unit connected to, but then only upon “Turning On” or “Waking Up”. If the unit goes out of range of a previously connected phone, then the unit reverts to “None” as a phone selection and does not look for other paired phones within range.
3 - Of lesser importance, I can no longer dial a custom or built-in POI directly from the “Go!” page with a single tap to the display. You must now tap the “Information Box”, and then tap the phone handset symbol to dial the number.
Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Firmware Problems?

The 3760 is in all likelihood hardware capable of accepting Phone Book contacts as evidenced by the help menu: “Tools”, “Help”, “Hands Free Calling”, Using Your Phone Book” - So it appears to be a firmware problem. I can’t wait for the first firmware update to be issued.

Nuvi 3760 LMT Bluetooth

While paring my Blackberry Bold it did pull in the addresses but has some issues.
1.)When I make a call or receive a call it always shows the same name. (This may be a problem between the Blackberry and Garmin rather than just the Garmin.
2.)While talking with bluetooth the other party says they hear noise like wind noise.
3.)When I bring up the list of all the contacts there is no way to go to a search or go to a certain one that I can see and I don't wont to scroll through hundreds to find one.

.

Garmin changed Bluetooth suppliers at one point along the way. They went from Parrot to Motorola to save a couple of pennies and life hasn't been the same since.

My 760 (Parrot-equipped) works properly with any phone I've tossed at it. My later units (Motorola-based) choke, give the wrong information; spontaneously shut down while transferring the contact list (about 580 names); telling me that there is no voice dialling, but making the spoken connection anyway and so on . . .

When you call Garmin to discuss the problems they claim it is the phone.

And that is just pure Bull****. If it works on one navigator model and it doesn't work on the other and the common element (the phone) remains the same, then logic dictates that it must be the item that changed - and that is the navigator.

While I don't own a 3700 series, the underlying code library is the same and my navigator does display the incoming call information from my Blackberry 9700 directly on my Motorola-equipped devices and the contact list DOES transfer over . . . . perhaps the Blackberry (and/or your 3760) needs a firmware update.

No phone book...

I also do not get a phone book loaded to the GPS on my 1490T...the Garmin site shows it will do everything but load the phone book with my Droid X. You would think that would be a simple programming item since it is available on other phones including my older 765T. It just seems Garmin cannot get anything right the first time around...

Phone Book

My 3790T would not load the phone book from my Droid X.
I updated the software to v3.60, and now the phone book transfers.
P.S. - After the Droid X pairs, the phone will ask permission to transfer the phone book. There is a check box to always allow transfer.

.

Same experience as rhythm1. My Verizon Moto KRZR would never transfer the phone book from the phone to my 3790. With the most recent firmware v3.60, this issue has been resolved.

1490t

The address book loads sometimes yes sometimes no. The nuvi firmware is up to date. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with how close or far away the devices are from one another.

Finally got the first update!

Yeah! We finally got the first software update for the 3700 series. In the description of changes from V2.50 to V3.60 there was no mention of fixing Bluetooth issues – just “certain software issues fixed.”
My unit now shows:
GPS Software Installed: Ver. 3.60 (12-2-10)
GPS Firmware: Ver. 2.60
Audio Version: Ver. 2.20
Bluetooth software version: Ver. 3.0.35 P55
PMIC version: Ver. 822
TSC version: Ver. 1.16
Traffic Trends: NA 3.01
The only Bluetooth issue that was somewhat corrected was that the “Recent Calls” now shows up, but only for the last session of outgoing calls. And for me the phone book still does not transfer from the phone to the unit, even after many minutes, so there is no way to ID the caller except for the phone number. All this is by using the same phone that works great with the Nuvi 780. Perhaps there will be a later release of either GPS firmware or Bluetooth software.

My 1490 won't load the address book...the garmin website shows the phone book from a Droid will not load on a 3790. See below...hit the go button...

Phone Book Transfer

Garmin's list of Bluetooth compatible phones, and what features are transferred, is not updated very often. Who knows when the Droid X will even show up as a selection on their website.

iPhone works

With software v 3.60 on my 3790LMT, my iPhone 4 works properly. All bluetooth functions including phonebook contacts and call history load and work completely.

Whoaboy, in regards to your number "3" on having to tap the information box. I agree it would be easier and better if gamin would let us dial from the 'Go" page also.

Thanks for this post.

Thanks for this post. Updated the 3760 to 3.6 today. With my T-Mobile G1, the address book and call logs finally work.

Still No Dice

My 1490T and iPhone 4 pair up okay, but the phone book does not load into the gps. Most annoying is that caller id never works on the gps. Every call is from "unidentified caller", even if the phone screen shows the caller id.

Plays nice with my Blackberry

My 3790t plays nice with my Blackberry 8530 software version 4.0.

I get caller id and phone book.

I noticed whether I upgrade or downgrade the software version, the bluetooth firmware is always 3.0.35 P55.

I'd bet these are related incidences, because the CLID is gleaned from the phone book that it imports.

This would not be an incompatibility problem, or it wouldn't connect.

Has this always been the way? Have you updated the nuvi FW or maps, and not done a hard reset?

Its always been like that,

Its always been like that, over time I've reset the GPS, updated everything as it became available, the phone is an old nokia 2700

Might be that the phones BT signal is getting weak perhaps, or just the phone is reaching end of life.

Does the phone normally drop calls by itself?

No

No, while I'm talking it's ok, it's just when I hang up.
