NMEA Output From A Garmin?

I seem to recall somewhere a modification of some sort that would allow the Garmin Nuvi to output NMEA data. Does anybody happen to recall a URL for that?

Is this what you are looking for?

NMEA

My 295w has NMEA logging that is accessed deep in hidden menu.
The 1490 has similar logging but it is called diagnostic logging.

The files of both units are similar, using GPS- Visualizer to output a GPX file that can be viewed on Mapsource and other programs.

That Is It

Really? Sure that is the best option?

Thank you!

At $48 I'm not sure that I would go that route. Sure, it might do what was asked for, but I've seen stand alone GPS receivers with no display and nema output for significantly less. These devices are intended to be used with PC based mapping programs or other similar applications, and I've seen them at just under $30 or less. Depending on just what you want to do, a stand alone device that costs less than the adapter might be a better choice.

NMEA Output From A Garmin?

You do make a very good point. Just so you know my motivation here, I am considering buying a Uniden Home Patrol HP-1. They do have a GPS option, that interests me. It looks like most people just buy a dedicated GPS receiver for this function. I am (was) hoping that since I have a GPS already, I could just tap that for GPS NMEA data. However, much like over priced HDMI cables, this does seem to be a little bit over priced.

Another inexpensive option would be to buy an older used handheld model such as a Garmin GPS 12. It won't have all the fancy features of a new model, but the exported data will be just as accurate.

I bought the garmin gps 18

I bought the garmin gps 18 for my home patrol (and bcd996xt). It works great and I never have to touch it. I tried using a hand held model (etrex legend) and it did not work as well.
