Unable to enter address on 765t.

Just got back from Maui. While there, I had problem entering the address of hotel. The GPS requires the user to enter the city first. In this case Wailea. But it came back with an error message that Wailea could not be found. (This is a well known hotel that has been there for years.)

We eventually found the hotel by entering nearby town of Kihei, then did a lodging search, the GPS displayed the address correctly, in Wailea.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

In a similar vein, during a previous trip, I could not pull up Washington DC. I tried Washington DC, Washington D.C., DC, D.C., and District of Columbia. They all returned no match found!

Sometimes less specific info is better when searching

If I just enter "Washington" alone in the City search it will give me choices of cities with Washington in the name and one of them will be Washington DC. Just select the correct one from the list of Cities.

This is another reason to use SEARCH ALL instead of entering a specific city or town before you enter the address. This will often find the place your looking for as the official address is in a different municipality than what you think it's in. In your case entering Where To - Address - Change State/Country (only needed if the Nuvi didn't know you were in Hawaii) - Spell State - Hawaii - Search All - enter address, would have found your hotel.

For your Washington example you could also use the same method by first changing the state to DC and then entering the address.

http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp (USPS ZIP code lookup) for 96753 shows the actual city name as Kihei, with Wailea as an acceptable alternative. So if you wanted to mail something you could user either name; driving with your Garmin, it's Kihei smile

Sometimes places aren't listed in the maps the way we expect, and we have to use other methods, as described in previous posts.

A Kihei/Wailea postal listing example would be the Marriot (Wailea) just down the street from the Wailea Beach Villas (Kihei): http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&q=hotels+near+Ulua+Beach,+Kih...

Did you make it to Ulua Beach? Great snorkeling there!
