Options to update Porsche built-in GPS maps other than dealer?

After reading an active thread comparing built-in GPS's to portable units, I find myself wondering if it is possible to update the maps in my car some way other than the Porsche dealer, whose price is probably obscene.

Something I once read said that it possible using the USB port in the car, but I have no idea where to buy the needed file(s). The car is a 2009 911.

Thanks.

Don't know

Don't know anything about the Porsche but once had to update a DVD player and called the maker and they had the files and sent me a dvd to use to update my unit. Maybe the Porsche dealers have the files in their parts department. Worth a call??

Really

I don't own a Porsche but it seems to me that the built in GPS units are tied to the disk player in the car. If this is your case I would assume that you can contact porsche about acquiring an update disk.

Mine was easy

I have a 2007 Lexus with navigation and I replaced the DVD based system in less than 2 minutes. There were instructions in the navigation manual on how to do it....it was very simple after getting the new map DVD.
