Mio C310x Web Site

I'm about half way complete with the site but wanted to share it with any other Mio users, or others considering the Mio C310x.

I'm building a site specifically geared around how to unlock the functionality of this unit through it's WindowsCE interface, and how to modify POI's and SpeedCams for it. This unit has tons of potential but most of the documentation for it is in French, and it's almost impossible to find a guide on how to do these things.

So, I'm creating a pictorial essay on how to do so.

You can find my new site at:
http://www.hugginsnet.com/ilovemymio/index.html

Hope it's helpful to other Mio users. Please feel free to make suggestions about the content, layout, or whatever. I'm still in the loading stage so haven't yet finished all of the design.

Also note at the bottom of the first page that I included a comment directed back to this site, JM and Miss POI I hope you don't mind!!

This Mio is so cool, I did my first Geocache today, haven't located the cache specifically as I want to do that with my 9 year old daughter tomorrow, but did find the general vacinity and scoped it out today.

The Mio allows you to put custom skins on it, plus a bunch of other things, so today I changed the Map loading screen to the following picture:

You can Geocache with a Mio?

You can Geocache with a Mio? That intrigues me! I did a little Geocaching with a friend during a VT. motorcycle trip with a handheld GPS my friend had during the trip. What concerns me about the Mio is the use of Teleatlas mapping. My travels in this area demand accuracy due to the dense population. It would be nice if I could test a unit before buying one but nobody offers that option. My friends GPS also performed well getting us back to our campsite at the base of Mt. Ascutney (a VT. state park).

TeleAtlas released an update

TeleAtlas released an update to their maps mid-November, so I think they're fairly accurate. I haven't given it a real test yet. I do like it's portability and all I need for geocaching is the coordinates, and this handles the coordinates fine.

Very Impressive!

Hi Robin,
Looks like you are really into enhancing the Mio C310X.
By the time you finish, it should be the best GPS on the market. Your directions are most professional. I especially like your option of zooming in and out of your photos on your website.

Request For Beginners:
There are many of us who have purchased the MioC310X that are just starting out for the first time.
Before some of us consider unlocking and modifying the C310X, would you be willing to create a step by step tutorial on using the Mio C310X and all of it's features. To my knowledge, no person has done so to date and in my opinion, the Mio manual and quick start guide are not good, especially for beginners.
Thank you,
Richard

Good point Richard. I'll put that on my to do list! It started out as a place to go to find information on modifying the Mio, but now I've got more responses asking for a "Mio for Dummies" site, so I may take it more that direction.

Mio For Beginners (Step By Step)

Thank you Robin,

I have been away for several weeks and would like to know how you are progressing with the request I made:

need help on mio C310x

I have been searching to find out how to load this .CSV files into MIO C310x. I saw the link to HugginnetIlovemio site. but that's to generate and load up the new POI that you generate for yourself. It does not have how to load .CSV file to mio. Can someone tell me step by step procedure? Am I asking too much help?

never mind. I think i figure out.

I think i got it. I has to treat .CSV file same as .KML. but one question, do you need to convert .CSV file to .KML file for MIO?

search the i love my mio site

dokotak
try that site again

CSV? KML? GPX?

Actually you need to convert CSV to either KML or GPX. I prefer GPX as it's a bit easier of a conversion matrix. JM is working on conversions here, and will soon be releasing "Mio Friendly" files, or so we've spoken on. I'm not sure how far along he is, but I'm volunteering to convert them for him if he wants some help.

There's an entire section on my site dedicated to loading POI files in your Mio and what you need to do for that. However, it'll be easier to get the files here from JM.

I just did my first .CSV pois into igo.db file.

I adde wifi POIs into igo.db file using igo explorer. it worked fine. but somehow it changed my poi group name. Wifi POIs went into family group and all pois moved into an empty group that was there. I do not know why it did that manner. maybe it was because the one group was empty. However, I manually updated the group name accordingly. Once I download the speedcam pois, i will try that as well.

hmm. i added more pois in different groups

and, it did it again. it mixed all the pois in different groups again. why? does anybody knows? Now actually it moved my family data into a new poi group i just added. every POIs is now into different POI groups.

Nice site

I just received my mio a few days ago and have liked it so far. When I got it I didn't know you could do all these extra features. I'm looking forward to using the how tos and tips on your site.

Thanks!

Lot of blood, sweat and tears went into tearing the Mio down and getting it stuffed full of modifications and such. My Mio doesn't hardly look the same, from an operating perspective, as it did when I pulled it out of the box. Now if I could just get a camera in there...

Troubleshooting with C310X....need help.

Hi,
I have trouble in starting my C310X GPS navigator.
The charging light is orange and keeps glowing even after unplugging the AC adapter. The GPS does not turn on even after pressing the power button and holding. I tried to reset, but it does not work.
Kindly help me to get my C310x GPS Started.

Thank you,
Raghu

Powering up your Mio

Sounds like an issue with your Mio. I've never experienced that. Have heard a couple of users comment that you need to do a hard reset (the slide switch on the bottom right of the Mio), leave it off for +5 minutes. Turn it back on (on the bottom, don't turn the Mio on), then charge it overnight.

If that doesn't work then I'd say exercise your rights under the warranty and get it returned to MioTech.

Looking for some help - with my 310X

I was trying to upgrade the firmware and update the maps and ran in to the problem anumber of folks are.... needing the SEC s32410X Test B/D driver. Well before I found a site where I could download the files I needed, I was into Windows CE, I have since found the drivers, but have apparently wiped out the software. Can someone PLEASE walk me thru the steps to re-install the software (I have an SD card) so I can regain the use of my Mio 310X and then upgrade the firmware and update the maps? I would greatly appreciate your help - but I know nothing about Windows CE (so why did I press the "reset" button and get into it??? I have no good explanation - stupidity comes to mind)

Thank you - this seems like the place I can get some help.

Help with your Mio

I have an entire forum dedicated to the Mio products, www.hugginsnet.com/ilovemymio, you can go visit there and see what you can find.

Did you hit the master reset switch on the bottom of the unit, turn off and then on after 5 minutes? If you haven't buggered your flash, you should have it back to factory default when turning back on. If it's buggered, then you need the DVD that came with your unit. One of the first two selections on that DVD reloads all the original software, the other reloads all the original maps. I suggest trying that first before continuing to try the upgrade.

Remember, if you were using the MioTransferHack, you need to remove that first, then reinstall the original Mio Transfer program before doing anything else.

Good luck to you!

mio poi's

the mio 320 has a program on the dvd called poiloader it convert's csv files and put them on an sd card. the csv files need to be downloaded to a folder on your computer for poiloader to find them. i rename each folder the same name as the the file. if you have a mio 310x you have to reset the device by turning off the unit then back on with the switch on the bottom of the unit your poi's will show up under my poi's

Update ??

Since it looks like at least a few MIO 310 users are still active here..........

The link in the first message of this thread doesn't work anymore. You can still find it but not exactly THAT way.

What I found there was a LOT of discussion about "enhancements" but little about basic operation.

There was some discussion here about producing a basic "users guide" for the GPS functions on the C310X; was that ever done? If so, where is it to be found.

I have a used one coming in the next few days.

Hello All smile
I have tried to get map updates and have a product key that MIO e-mailed that appears to be non-compatable. They keep talking about the 'On-line Chat Support' that I cannot find. Any clues?
