Garmin Nuvi Battery Recall

Just saw this article why browsing the web:

http://www.slashgear.com/garmin-nuvi-battery-recall-over-pot...

They are talking about a potential fire hazard with overheating batteries. It appears the 200W, 250W, 260W, 7xx and 7xxT (where xx is a two-digit number) model numbers may be affected.

If you own one of the above models, you may want to check the Garmin site on whether yours is in the recall.

Poor condition

The nüvi I got back had a different serial number - like others have noted - and it creaks badly when handled or squeezed gently. The touch screen also has more flex or "give" to it than the previous units did. Either they didn't put this one together properly or it's defective. Either way, I'm not happy with the unit I got back. I hate to think of having to send the dang thing in again and be stuck without my GPS for another two weeks or whatever.

Refurbished Unit sent back.

I was hoping that someone else was in the same situation as me, but no such luck.

I sent in my 760 for the battery recall several weeks ago. I just got my Nuvi back today but it's not the same unit. So not only did I lose my favorites, I have a Lifetime Maps undate that won't work on the new unit. Here is what the letter said.

"Thank you for sending in your unit for repair. Your unit had defects unrelated to the recall that were identified during our testing process. We have decided to replace your unit with Newly Refurbished unit."

I'm calling Garmin tomorrow to see what they'll do for me.
