Junction view on a Nuvi 1450

I've had a Nuvi 1450 for several weeks and for the first time I had the opportunity to see Junction View in action. It was totally cool, BUT I don't much care for its implementation.

First of all, you can't tell if there even is a Junction View available with an upcoming intersection unless you press the upper left hand corner of the screen, where the lane assist indicator is. Then you have to look at the bottom of the screen to see if Junctio View is grayed out or not. If it's not, you need to press "Junction View." If all that works, you get a really helpful Junction View, BUT it times out after a few seconds and you're back at the navigation view. That procedure seems not only cumbersome but also illogical.

What would have been infinitely better is that whenever a Junction View-enabled intersection is encountered, just drop into it and leave it there until the manoeuver is completed. It seems poorly designed to have to press the screen at least once just to see if there is a Junction View available, and then again to actually get it. That's a lot of time your attention is diverted away from the task at hand, which is safely driving your vehicle.

Anyone have a different opinion?

.

My experience with Junction View on my 3760T is that if Junction View exists for the location, it will come up automatically. No need to push the buttons.

And on 765T

the junction view comes up automatically if available.

Does anyone reading this thread have to press junction view oval to see the details?

You may be right. Maybe I jumped the gun by going through all those shenanigans. Next time I'll let nature take its course and see if the Junction View function happens all by itself. Thanks for the info.

Junction View

I have a 1450 and if Junction View is available for a specific location, it comes up automatically. I do not have to push any buttons.

Had the juction view for the first time last week, just came up and before you know it, was gone. But a very nice view on which lane you should be at or going to.

Good question

A good question. On my 855, I see, love and use Lane Assist quite often but haven't been to an area with Junction View yet, so haven't seen a JV image other than in the web ads and screen capture displays from various web sites. I'm about to do a 2100-mile drive to Florida and expect I'll finally see JV in use on my nuvi--at least I hope so.

Function of lanes, I think

My feeling is that the junction view is a function of the number of lanes on the highway on which you are traveling AND the number of possible routes at the upcoming junction.

When you are following a route on a multilane road, the next turn is indicated with a direction - usually a branching off to the left or right. Sometimes you will see a number of lanes with one of them grayed out meaning that is the one you should follow.

But, lets say that you are approaching an interchange at which you could choose one of three (or maybe more) routes. Then you will get a "junction view" with the lanes (left - center - right) that the GPS wants you to follow indicated.

.

Try this.

Create these two points as Favorites.

Starting Point - N34.06754 W117.98257
Ending Point - N34.06010 W118.00142

Turn the GPS function off.

Browse the map to the Starting Point and use the "Set Location" function to set this point as your current location.

Then select the Ending Point and select "Go!"

You will see the Junction View.

usually pops up

usually pops up automactically

If it's in the garmin it will pop up automatically

The junction view on my 765t is a nice feature but never sure when it will show up. Seems to be the larger the city the better chance you'll see it. I use the lane assist alot since it tells you what lane you should be in and direction you'll need to go. Lane assist is showing long before junction view does.

Junction View

I recently purchased a 1450 and I have just assumed that the junction view automatically would come up if there is one available. On the next road trip, I will pay more attention. Thanks for the heads up.

It seems like junction view

It seems like junction view is available at major highway intersections and at important junctions such as links to the airport. There are quite a number of junction views here in the San Francisco bay area along US 101 and Interstate 280.

junction view

my 255w has this. when you press upper left corner, it shows junction as well tells you the distance to that intersection. its nice in heavy traffic when you haven't got time to look at gps

Peter5560, the Nuvi 255W doesn't have Junction View or Lane Assist, per the Garmin Web Site. You must be thinking of some other unit or some other feature.
