Olive Garden POIs

I finally found a POI project that i can sink my teeth into. smile

I haven't seen much in the way of any POI's for Olive Garden Restaurants (just the one her for NJ I believe) so I'm working on making some POI files starting out here on the west coast. So far I have what I believe to be a complete list for WA, OR, ID, CA, & NV.

Tell me if your interested in this...if people seem interested I'll keep moving from state to state.

You could make one...

asianfire wrote:

And then send it off to P38nut to add to the collection like I did - took less than an hour to collect, geocode, and format the file I did for IA, MN, & WI.

Visit http://olivegarden.com/default_f.asp - and in the upper right, use the locator...

I know this might be too

I know this might be too much to ask, but how does one do what you did with geocode with so much data in so little of time.. I would love to learn how to do this so I can contribute also, to do it manually takes so much time.. I need to learn this trick...
Thank You

'Twas easy

Copied each address off the website, pasted it into a notepad document, edited that document to make each address one line, with commas between major fields (address, city, state, zip, phone) - then saved that notepad document as a CSV file - opened it up in excel, copied the data, pasted it into the tool at http://www.batchgeocode.com/ - let it do its magic, and copied the resulting text and pasted it into a new excel sheet, arranged the columns in the proper order for a Garmin csv file (longitude, latitude, POI Name,Description) - had to use a concatenate function to combine the address, city, state, zip, and phone into one cell in the spreadsheet as the 'description' - I included the code in those fields for line breaks after the address, and zip so it would look right when loaded into my 350, saved it, and loaded to my GPSr. All is swell. smile

New Olive Gardens

Ok, I have posted two csv files...

I don't know about the NC file, but you might want to make a note on the page for the VA one that it's a partial list.

olive garden

How about throwing Texas onto that list!

Not doing anything worth a darn.

Yeah, I missed some

Motorcycle Mama wrote:

I thought that I got all of them, but I see that I missed at least two. I am not how to get the list, since it requires a city. There aren't too many throughout VA anyways, at least not like a Starbucks. Any suggestions would be helpful. How do you repost a file? So that you aren't double posting.

If you type in zip code

If you type in zip code 23456, you will find these.

1631 RING ROAD CHESAPEAKE VA 23320 (757) 424-4758

12560 JEFFERSON AVE NEWPORT NEWS VA 23602 (757) 833-7503

To repost a file, go back to the page where the file is and as the file owner, you will see an "edit" tab.

Great, thanks. But here is

Great, thanks. But here is my thing. It isn't practical for me to go through every zip code of the state to find everyone. But that is what I might have to do, thanks for the others

Better trick to use Olive Garden's Locator

On Olive Garden's main site, just enter a state abbreviation in the box, and then on the next page that comes up. you can enter just the state and get whatever they have.

--
*Keith* MacBook Pro *wifi iPad(2012) w/BadElf GPS & iPhone6 + Navigon*

Yeah, that doesn't capture

Yeah, that doesn't capture all of them though. I treid that last night. So I started entering major cities Such as Richmond, VA Beach, Blacksburg and that is the only way i got the stuff. But as you can see I still didn't get all of them

That's fine. That's why I thought a simple note saying that it wasn't a complete list would suffice, so people would know when they downloaded it.

Your help was greatly

Your help was greatly appreciated. I hadn't even notice that I didn't get them all. It didn't seem like a lot, but I know that Rmond (as far as I remember) has only two of them, so I was like, "well, perhaps they don't have too many"

As the owner of the file, if you go online and select the file, you will see a button to update it.

You are fast

I went to update my comment and you had already responded. I was just going to clarify (for others) that when you select the POI, you will see two tabs. The EDIT tab allows you to replace the file with a new one and also to update the text.

I know they don't have many in IA

The list gave me one I didn't know about, so I'm reasonably certain I got 'em all.

Who's gonna combine this into a multistate thing

I'd be glad to - but P38 since you started the thread, do you want to do it? it'd be nice to have one file, even if its a partial listing of states. Anyone object?

Is that ok with you P38nut?

Is that ok with you P38nut? If so then everyone can send you a copy of the file they made so you can make a combined one.

Miss Poi

ps.
I have moved this thread to the open projects forum area.

Sure...

I'd be happy to combine them. I'd actually planned on doing that, for myself atleast, once we have the individual ones done...it keeps my c550 custom POIs less cluttery to have them combined.

Actually...

Actually that brings up a great question. Do we want individual state POI files? Or, would people rather just have one with all the states?

State vs US POI

My choice is to always have one file. It is relatively easy (especially with RT's latest version of Poi Verifier) to separate that file into smaller ones.

Olive Garden POIs

I just emailed Aaron(P338Nut) that he may include my POI of Olive Gardens for NJ. I love the restaurant and look forward to having one for as many states as possible. I will start working on an update to include New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

We ate 3 salad bowls last night alone and still finished my plate.

Agree - one file

Glad to see this. Thanks MsPOI and P38nut!

for MsPOI

If I upload a combined file will you pull the old individual ones? I have a combined one ready, but don't want to have the confusion and duplication of the multiple files and the combined one.

I had a talk with Jon about

I had a talk with Jon about this and he says that we will keep the state files for now and the combined file and later we can change things if it gets to be too much.

Miss Poi

gotta say though Love the teamwork going on here at POI Factory!!!!! Great job everyone!!!

TX is done. Whew!

I just uploaded the most current file that I have including coverage of: OR WA CA NV AZ ID IA MN WI VA TX and partial coverage of NC

Unfortunatly I guess in my sleep deprived stupor this afternoon I uploaded after pasting all the states that I had then. I've already asked MsPOI to delete the older one, but in the meantime follow this link for the most current one.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/3043

Hopefully this is not too confusing for anyone. I guess maybe I should sleep a bit more...that or find a job that isn't all graveyard shift. sad

I say that we have one file.

I say that we have one file. Even with all the states included, it isn't going to be that big. That way we don't have to keep up with so many files, have dups, and not have to load multiple files for one interest. I would love to have the whole thing on my GPSr (even though VA and NC are my primary ones that I care about since that is where I travel the most.)

EDIT: I really don't understand the use of single files for each state when something is this small. When you are dealing with 1000's of locations, makes better sense, but is there an advantage of having each state separate? Since the GPSr sorts by distance, it won't show you the ones way way off, in a forgotten land...lol.

Yep

asianfire wrote:

Yep, I hope you don't mind.

I downloaded them this morning. They copied and pasted nicely into the file. That's why I listed the NC coverage as partial. It was you who said the coverage of NC was partial, right?

NC is partial, OG site is odd

That is weird - I see what others are pointing out - you type in NC in OG's website and it generates 8 restaurants, but I noted it didnt have mine in Winston-Salem, type in Winston and it yields one here and one in Greensboro that arent on the state list. Odd for sure. I just sent them a nice note pointing out that their website is dysfunctional.

Missing from the big file and the NC list are at least these - I cant swear its otherwise perfect

170 HANES MALL CIRCLE
WINSTON SALEM NC 27103 (336) 765-9008

3000 HIGH POINT ROAD
GREENSBORO NC 27403 (336) 854-7094

540 S.E. GREENVILLE BLVD
GREENVILLE NC 27858 (252) 321-7498

5307 MARKET STREET
WILMINGTON NC 28405 (910) 791-1587

(plus there is one in SC! in the NC list, so we should get credit that its a partial SC list too!)

Picture in the future once

In the future once we get more organized you will have the ability to go the an area of the site that has the states listed and you can go to the state that you are interested in and be able to download selected files or download everything in the POI Factory database for that state.

We are just at the beginning stages of this site, we are looking way into the future and seeing great things, however it is not going to happen overnight. This is going to take time to build and develop.

Miss Poi

great future

Thanks to you both for all your work - its great as it is, and the future is bright.

Particularly with regard to POI files - i understand the option for user privacy - but it'd be nice to have a simple way for feedback to posters of files to be able to send info like the above regarding omissions/deletions etc. I have several times found an error, and while I change it on my POI file, it'd be nice to be able to throw a message out to the owner to edit - in lieu of someone reposting. Not sure what the best way is... I just know that if something gets put up on the boards - its not certain, or even likely that the OP will read it....

Thanks again

That was fine

Naw, I don't mind at all, just wondered if you wanted me to send the files. I made some corrections to the VA one, so you might want to edit the Single file with it. The NC is a partial file.

Matt,

Matt,
You can go to a users page and click on the contact tab which will allow you to send them an email. If it bounces back to you let me know and I will contact that person for you and if it is appropriate I will ask them to turn on their contact feature so that people can get a hold of them.

Olive Garden

Count me in..one of my favorites, as well.

File updated

Everyone, I just updated the Olive Garden file with the NJ locations as well as the 4 posted NC locations and the update to the VA locations. Whew! I hope that I got all the updates and didn't miss anything.

Thanks to all who are helping.

UT, WY, CO, MT are done

Finally a few easier states. I've got these put together and geocoded. I hope to go over these and verify that they all look reasonably placed tonight and get them posted up tomorrow.

I hope to have NM ND SD NE KS & OK done this week to complete all the states west of the Mississippi.

Please call out what states you are working on so we don't dunplicate our effort.

Thanks, everyone

Seeing everyone working together for a common good -- Olive Garden POI -- makes me appreciate everyone's effort. I don't have much to offer in terms of programming POI as I don't know how. I just want to thank everyone's unselfishness, congeniality.

hmmmm that sounds like a challenge

We can fix that, who wants to hold him down and who is going to cram the programming info into the brain?

heheheheheheh

Miss Poi

Why don't you colaborate with someone on a state?

You could team up with another poster here and maybe you could chase down all the addresses for a given state and someone else could do the geocoding, etc. Just a thought.

Anyone interested in helping out wingsang104?

I just uploaded the newest file I have...

with the 4 new states listed above.
