1690 and Windows 7

I've had my 1690 for about a month now. It seems lately that when I have the 1690 connected to my Windows 7 PC and eject it (from safely remove hardware) that the GPS continues to display the connection screen instead of changing to the operational mode so I can work with it while it charges. I think I remember that is used to do this early on.

When I have the 1690 plugged into my XP laptop, I know that after safely removing it, the 1690 goes into full operational mode and is being charged.

Is this a Windows 7 thing or have I changed a setting somewhere that needs to be adjusted?

eject HW

I've discovered (rediscovered?) that if I use the safely remove HW option, the 1690 still shows the connected icon on the GPS itself even though the device disappears from Windows Explorer.

However, if I right click the drive (in Windows Explorer) and eject it, the USB disconnect tone sounds and the GPS enters operational mode even while connected via USB cable so that it continues to receive a charge.

Using safely remove HW, I never hear the USB disconnect tones until I physically remove the connecting cable.

Now I'm trying to remember which disconnect option I used on my laptop.

Eject vs Safely remove

I see this same anomaly with my 755T. On my desktop with Win XP Pro, I use "Safely remove" to get navigation mode. On my laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit, I have to use "Eject".

My 855 is another story ... neither "Safely remove" or "Eject" will put it in nav mode.
