New Guy (hello)

I just bought my first Garmin and I'm trying to learn all that I can. It's a brand new 3790T and so far I love it. It's their latest unit and if my first week with it is any indication it will be great!
I called tech support with a question last week and the gal wanted to know how I got my hands on one because they were all sold out. I had pre-ordered mine through Amazon two months ago.
I think I'll be spending quite a lot of time reading through this site and other like it. It sure looks like a lot of fun grin

Welcome!

I find now that I use a GPS, I have a hard time explaining why I'm lost...

welcome Runnerduck

Welcome to the site.

One of the first things you should do with your new nit is to connect it to your computer and do a backup of the software that comes installed in the unit. This will allow you a chance to restore it to a known state should something happen.

There are some great tutorials on this site regarding Garmin units in particular. The majority of the tutorials are written for Windows users. Poke around, find them and read, read some more, and yet even more. Once you think you begin to understand some of the things that can be done with your unit remember we are here to answer questions and provide help and direction.

Have fun!

You will get several things from this website. Number one is Miss POI, this site would be nothing like it is now without the time and knowledge put into it by her and JM. Second the information is outstanding. You are actually communicating with everyday users. So from all of us, welcome to the site. grin

Let's not worry about getting lost - so long as your GPS allows you to talk about it later ?

Welcome to the forum.....this is really the best place that I have found to get the information and files needed to get the most out of your GPS!

I learn something everytime I log on......Hope you enjoy it!

This is the place to ask if you're having trouble with your GPS.

It's rare that someone here doesn't know the solution. And it's a lot more convenient than calling Garmin customer support.

New to POI also

grin I am also new to the POI family here. I never new you could get all of this stuff for my Garmin 1490. Cool! I am looking forward to learning more about all I can do with it. At first I thought it was just a product to show me the way, but it has exceeded my expectations.

I downloaded a couple of things already and am looking forward to taking advantage. Thanks to those of you that worked so hard to bring us these accessories to our products!

3790T

Would like to know your initial response to the 3790T, as I have one also. I have had many, many Garmins and when a new model comes out. I sell my present one on eBay as they are always kept in brand new condition I have no trouble. I would like to see a more current version of NAVTEQ, that Garmin would use in theirmap finding and plotting. Would like to hear your uptake on the 3790T, I have had my since June but still playing and experiencing. Well enjoy it, it does have in my opinion some short comings...roboni

Welcome to the site. If you could get info on that bridge IE height, name of road, coordinates, etc and contact firenutts http://www.poi-factory.com/user/2237 he can load it into his file if he doesn't already have it.
