Track log / Bread crumbs in the 1490T

In all of my reading about the 1490T before I purchased it, I had not come across, or it had not registered, that the unit automatically records bread crumbs. I downloaded my "current.gpx file and opened it in Google Earth yesterday and found my track log displayed. Of course it shows the same thing when imported into Map Source, and also shows the actual "crumbs" there.

On searching out this feature I find very little mention of it on the net and none here.

I did find one comment in another forum that says you can access the track log via the hidden diagnostic screen and change the data that is output and the amount of memory allocated to the log.

When I look for this in the diagnostic pages, I do not find them. I wonder if this accessibility was removed in later firmware changes?

1450

I just looked thru the dianogstic screen on mine and did not find anything to refer to the track log, just a screen in the map icon that lets you turn it off or on, I keep mine off just because i dont like the extra route on the map itself.

Trip Log

If you are talking about the trip log? It is shown on page 41 of the manual. Tools--settings----map---trip log...or maybe I am not aware of what you are talking about....

yes and no

Yes farrissr, that page tells you how to clear the log, but the comments I found in another forum were how to make changes to the data saved to the log and the size of the memory allocated to the log. It is said to be in the hidden diagnostic pages on the unit and are not covered in the manual.

How do you get to the

How do you get to the "hidden diagnostic pages"?

Press

To turn on TRACK LOGGING, Press the Speed icon on the map screen. On the Speedo screen that will appear, press and hold the speedometer icon in the middle/left of the screen.
The "Diagnostic Pages" will appear and one of the entries will be Diagnostic Logging.
Select Diagnostic Logging and then Start Recording.

A new log will start each time you boot the Nuvi and will stop when you turn the device off or press the STOP icon that will appear on the mapscreen once you have turned TRACK logging on.

Remember, the log files will be written to the /.system/logs folder on the 1490 (probably all 1xxx models) and you will not be able to see them in Windows Explorer until you set Windows up to show all hidden and system files through the Folder View Options. Here are the steps to follow for that:

To see the .system folder on your Nuvi do the following:

- click on the Start Menu icon in Windows (lower left corner)
- in the Search field at the bottom of the Start Menu type - folder options
- from the search results that appear, select - folder options
- on the Folders Options screen, click on the View tab
- under Advanced Settings select "show hidden files, folders and drives" under the Hidden Files and Folders section
- under Advanced Settings delete the tick mark beside "Hide Protecting Operating System Files(Recommended)" and answer Yes you want to do that when the warning box appears.
- click Apply and then OK to save your changes and close the View Options box

Now attach your Nuvi to the PC and find the Nuvi's internal storage drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer. Open that drive to see the contents and you should find the .system file at or near the top of the listing.

@rocknicehunter - the track your seeing in Mapsource is the TRIP log if it's coming from the current.gpx file. The TRACK log is not stored there.

What your seeing on the maps is the Trip Log lines which can be turned off an on. The Track Log doesn't show on the screen but creates a log file that is stored on the Nuvi in the /.system/logs folder.

Also, this is not the log covered in the manual. Again the manual talks about the TRIP log, the log files created through the Diagnostic Logging facility are the TRACK Logs.

diagnostic

how to get in to your diagnostic (1) disconnect your nuvi from it power source (2) re power your nuvi (3) press the battery icon and now you are in diag mode this applies to the 1490T. in this mode you can only run a test that is all. NO DATA CAN BE CHANGE

There are Two ways to do it...

The first as pointed out above, is the battery icon. This is the comprehensive diagnostics. The second is the speedo. This is a compacted diagnostics page.

My first post of this thread

Hey guys.

If you re-read the third paragraph of my post that started this thread you'll see:

"I did find one comment in another forum that says you can access the track log via the hidden diagnostic screen and change the data that is output and the amount of memory allocated to the log."

Another forum as in NOT on POI Factory. Apparently if this ability was in the diagnostic page, it was removed in a later update. That's all I was asking...

And

And it's still there as per my post above which details the steps required to get to the screen that starts the TRACK log reached my pressing and holding the Speedometer.

It has not been removed as I'm running it as we speak on a 1490T with firmware 4.40

Thx t

I missed the one sentence about diagnostic logging, but on re-reading it, I'm there

Thanks again.
