Discontinued Garmin Model - i5

I don't know anything about that model.

But I have a 2730 which has also been discontinued by Garmin.

But fear not.... Garmin continues to support their discontinued models for a while with updates etc.

I would not hesitate to buy this model again even if it had already been discontinued.

Garmin Cust. Svc seems to be top notch and stands behind their products.

What I would try to find out is just how long that unit has been out and how long ago did they discontinue it?

I think plans for discontinuing that GPS was arounf Feb of 2006

There is nothing wrong with the i5. It is just that Garmain has SO MANY new units the had to drop something. See this link.

I suspect the i2 i3 i5 series was discontinued because the thumbwheel interface was judged by the marketplace to be inferior to the touchscreen.

That said, I have an i5 that my mother in law got me after watching me once too many times trying to balance or wedge a eTrex Legend on the dash.

I like the compactness and the software. I just downloaded an update for this unit dated July 2007. Apparently they are continuing to support discountinued units with updates. This one had a minor change the street lookup protocol that narrows down to an address more quickly. Also, Brazilian Portuguese was added. That makes the unit sound like it's trying to seduce us.

Dont worry nothing wrong with the I5 Garmin Discontinues the units when new Models come out with more or better features you will still get all your updates or what ever you need from garmin for as long as you own the Unit

I love my I5, so far it has been right on target and got me everywhere I wanted to go this summer!!!

It is a great GPS. I have taken a few day trips. One in the Southern tier of New York State and another into Canada and it has worked flawlessly. You have a fine GPS and as stated Garmin will continue to take care of us. Just wish we could get the new map upgrade for free, but at least it is available to us.
Garmin rocks.
