Alert on the right Turns

Hi, just recently bought a GArmin Nuvi 785T. Just want to know how will I put a notification/alert sound in my nuvi everytime I'm making the right turns or miss the turns as well. I found this feature in Magellan units. A ding-dong alert sounds everytime you make a turn. I am using mapsource as my editor and poiloader to upload the .gpx file into my Garmin.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nope

Garmin units don't alert when you successfull make a turn only recalculating if you missed a turn. So in answering your question you successfully made the correct turn if you don't hear recalculating. Sometimes you will get a continue on route (insert street name) from some units.

Thanks for your response.

Thanks for your response. My question is, can we make a customized POI to make that alert everytime I make a successful turn?

Custom POI

You could, but it would be a lot of work.
First determine your route.

Second, plot your route on a turn by turn basis.

Third, just after each turn, establish a POI. That could be a lot of turns.

Fourth, establish a proximity alert for each POI. It has to be short enough to ensure you have made the turn before it goes off. It also has to be long enough to ensure that gps inaccuracies do not activate it in error. This will entail trade-offs between the position of the poi and the proximity alert.

Fifth, create a poi file with proximity alerts and load it.

Sixth, ensure that this poi file does not conflict with any other poi file, with alerts, that you have on the gps.

Personally I prefer my nuvi, that tells me I'm a bad boy if I make a mistake, rather than an attaboy, if I follow directions. smile

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

As much as I know

Magellan doesn't have ding-dong alerts for successful turns. There is a ding-dong alert that reminds you, when in routing mode, of incoming turns and usually occurs very short (my guess ca. 100ft) before each turn.

Thanks

Thank you very much Not2bright for a very detailed tutorial. I realy appreciate it.

I'm not clear

I'm not clear on what you think you need. If you create a route and activate the route to get you to a destination, then the unit will announce each turn at least twice. It will announce you have an upcoming turn at least 30 seconds before the turn and again as you are to the point where you are supposed to turn. The dialog would go something like "in three tenths of a mile, turn right on Maple street." When you get to Maple, the unit will tell you "Turn right on Maple St."

If you miss the turn, then the unit will tell you it is recalculating your route and give you new directions from the missed turn to your destination.
