TourGuide question

I have a Garmin and I finally have the TourGuide working properly. I currently have a 700 series garmin not the one listed. Anyhow, is it possible to have a menu of different tourguides loaded on the sd card and choose only one that you want to run instead of all of them? To better explain, basically the Garmin will read all the files and all of the POIs on that file. So if i had a tourguide file for cameras and a tourguide file for rest stops. It will read both cameras and rest stops if the files are loaded on the card that is in the garmon. Is there a way to have the Garmin to read only one of those files? Basically to be able to choose the file or files you want it to read so you do not have to have a seprate card for each file?
Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks.

.

Even though you have the TourGuide function enabled, you still have to activate the Custom POI's for them to work, right? So, just select the POI's you want, and not the whole enchilada.

PS - this is where creating individual folders really pays off! wink

Ok. Well I have the tourguide files to trigger by proximity, so they are already active I do not have to do anything in custom poi for it to work? It is basically the samething as an alert poi file.
I also used the mapsource program instead of the csv method which is what i think you are referring to regarding the folders. There is a catagory function i can use when adding the wayward points.. do u think this will do anything? Maybe this is where I can activate or deactivate the file? Are u familiar with mapsource?

You can load TourGuide files by categories on a sd card just like you can for loading to the gps.Example.

>My Pois=main folder
>>TourGuides =subfolder
>>>TourGuide Rest stops.csv
>>>TourGuide Rest stops.bmp
>>>TourGuide Rest stops.mp3
>>>TourGuide Redlight cameras.csv
>>>TourGuide Redlight cameras.bmp
>>>TourGuide Redlight cameras.mp3
>>>Tourguude Speed cameras.csv
>>>Tourguude Speed cameras.bmp
>>>Tourguude Speed cameras.mp3

>>Food=subfolder
>>>Cracker Barrel.csv
>>>Cracker Barrel.bmp
>>>Cracker Barrel.mp3
>>>Arbys.csv
>>>Arbys.bmp
>>>Arbys.mp3

Just slect the category TourGuides then the file you want.I used your examples but for myself would not use for these files.Rest stops have the coordinates located at the entrance to the rest area and along the road alert works fine for the combine rest stop file. The cameras will alert automatically like they are set up now.Putting TourGuide in the name will result in more alerts then you want.Use manual mode for poiloader to set larger radius.Just TourGuide in the name will give automatic 1/4 mile radius alert using express mode for poiloader.

Hi. Thanks for the response.

Hi. Thanks for the response. That only works if you want it to show and say the smae thing for all of the waypoints in the csv file. What i am trying to do for conversational purposes would be like a tour of a zoo.. u pass by the zebras and a pic of a zebra pops up and an audio file to go with it.. u pass by the monkeys and then it has its own pic and sound file, etc...
lets say i have a tour for day and one for night.. well i want to turn off the day waypoints at night and viceversa at night.. how would i catgorize them so i can group them together and activate that tourguide file or deactivate it?

Gpx files

You will need gpx file to get different settings for indiviual custom pois in a file.Mapsource will work.I prefer Extra Poi Editor .Once you load the file to EPE double click one of the custom pois and you will see the different fields for data.As far as turning on and off don't know how you would do that. You can download Extra Poi Editor at http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor . When you download the program if you get message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download. Once installation is completed you will need to set up the preferences you want first. Under options click on preferences. For example using ft for input. Under units you will see editor, select Imperial/US. For Field Read select metric and Field save select Metric.

Won't TourGuides overlap

It seems to me that TourGuides are either on (auto or prompt) or off. I'm sure that people use TourGuides for different purposes - I use one to alert for Cracker Barrels which are ususlly not "Along the road"

Not sure how you would select the category "rest areas".

Thank you everyone for your

Thank you everyone for your prompt replies.. i tried downloading the extra poi editor before and it gave me problems even with the additional files downloaded.. anyhow, it still will not resolve the question i am posing.. i do not have problems editing my POIs and customizing them.. i have achieved this.. its a matter of turning a tourguide file (tourguide gpx)off..as jgerman noted its either all on are all off from what i can tell including prompts..lol so the question still is out there.. i am under the assumption it is not possible and i just have to put a different card in for a different tourguide..seems silly since i have 2 gigs to play with on a card but i guess it is what it is unless someone knows otherwise
