750 SD Card trouble

Whenever I plug my Nuvi 750 into my computer and try to load MP3s onto the SD card (which shows as a removable device alongside my Garmin) it doesn't let me format it. I get some error message "Windows was unable to format" whenever I try; I have the latest firmware for my Garmin. I've tried just putting the SD card in my Garmin (loaded with MP3s that I put on there by loading through my media card reader) but it doesn't recognize that I even have a card in. I've tried some troubleshooting that I found on the web, but nothing has worked. Sorry if this is a little incoherent...been drinking a little, I'll try and clarify if anyone is unclear.

I found this out the hard way...
SD cards, and HD SD cards are not the same thing! Some ads, and labeling at the stores often don't distinguish the difference.
SD cards: I have never seen SDs more than 8gig.
HD SD: can be much bigger. HD is high density.
My TOMTOM only understands SD cards ONLY. Also I found out TOMTOM cards have to be formatted in FAT32 (not NTFS which is the default in WINDOWS).
Also... on my TOMTOM you have to put the MP3s in a FOLDER labled MP3... perhaps you have to do this also.
