i have the nuvi 350. i just started looking into the proximity alert feature. this first thing i noticed was that the proximity alarms button is missing from my system settings menu. my menu has only four buttons: "waas/egnos", "safe mode", "garmin lock" and "touch tones". that's it. no "proximity alarms" button.
i'm running system v4.40, gps sw v2.90
Add or Upload a custom POI to your Nuvi 350
I think you have to upload a custom poi file to your Nuvi for that option to show up. At least that's what I remembered from looking in the manual.
I can't recall if the Nuvi came with any pre-installed custom POIs. But I'm sure you can download any poi from this website and upload it to your nuvi 350. Then you'll see a new buttom that says "custom poi". You will see the option you're looking for appear under that menu.
I am fairly new at this but
I am fairly new at this but I think the proximity alarms are set in the poi file and once loaded are automatic. There is an "alert" setting within the menu I also think that allows you to turn off the audible alarm. If you select the "System" menu then look for the "Alert" setting. Hope this helps.

Do you have any custom POIs
Do you have any custom POIs loaded? I'm thinking that it won't show up unless you do.
Otherwise, I'd say try doing a hard reset and if that doesn't work, reload your firmware.
just loaded some custom files
but no luck. how do i do a hard reset?

Take a look at page 58 of the user manual. The reset button is on the back under the antenna. If that doesn't do it then hold your finger on the upper right corner of the screen while turning the unit on. Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears. Touch 'yes' to clear all user data. All original settings are restored.
no luck with hard reset.

Ok, I think you are looking for it in the wrong place.
From the main screen (the one that says "Where to?" and "View Map"), touch "Settings". Then look for "Proximity Points".
The other System Setting Menu has to do with the GPS system and such.

As MM says, on my nuvi I go to the main page and click on the wrench - "settings" menu, then click on the "proximity points" selection, then you set the type of alert you want. You also need to make sure the volume for the alerts is set high enough to hear.

Ok, great. Glad you got it.
And just so you know, I found it on page 51 of the manual.
Glad it is working for you.
Glad it is working for you. The problem is the manual refers to it under the index as "alerts" instead of "proximity alarms".

page 51 of my manual
page 51 of my manual says:
"Adjusting the Proximity Alarms
To turn on or off the proximity alarms, from the Menu page, touch (wrench icon) > System > Proximity Alarms."
after which is a picture of the system settings menu as i described in my first post, but this menu has a "proximity alarms" button on the bottom.

I saw those settings in my
I saw those settings in my 660 manual and was not sure if they were the same for the 350 so I went online to look at the manual - which gave me the most current info I am sure. Strange that your was shipped with an old manual, but sounds like you have current software so everything should work fine.
Good luck getting it all going. Be sure to check Garmin for software updates. I know some people use the automatic web updater and have lost info on their system, so back it up before you update to be safe.

Yeah, anytime you update
Yeah, anytime you update your firmware, you should check to see if Garmin has also released an update to the manual.
