Street Names (formerly BETA)

The red light and speed camera files now both include street names. (This feature was previously being tested in the "redlight-beta" file.)

ABBREVIATIONS

RLC = red light camera
Speed = speed camera
R/Speed = red light & speed camera (combo)

DUPLICATE STREET NAMES

To eliminate duplicate names, some locations may have s# added to the end (e.g., RLC - Main & Broadway s2).

UPGRADING FROM THE OLD BETA FILE

If you were using the redlight-beta file, you should begin using the redlight-cameras file instead. Remember to delete the redlight-beta file from your computer. Otherwise, you may get duplicate alerts from the old beta file

Miss POI

THANKS MissPOI!!!

Its obvious the previous "beta" file with street names was very popular from the comments here. It sure was/is my favorite. grin

Thankyou!

We appreciate this very useful upgrade!

Good News.

I suspected that the "beta" was now the standard format when I downloaded today and saw only one red light camera file. I download every Wednesday and then check the WebUpdater unless I receive an update notice on this site. I have recruited my brother in law as a POI subscriber and my brother will be coming on board soon. This is the "go to" site for current information and fixes for the Garmin units.

Many thanks

Many thanks for incorporating this into the primary files. I was getting ready to change my POI loading procedure, so now I have the incentive to do so.

Edit

There is a problem with you using ?? when a speed is missing. We can't parse the file to add the @ symbol to trigger a speed alert. This needs to be set to a default value and as the speed is unknown anything faster than 00 should trigger the warning.

Thanks so much. They're both on my two nuvis already!

MPH vs KPH

I see the speed number has been shifted to the front of the name, but the MPH/KPH designation is not there. Since loading the speed numbers with a Garmin requires I specify either MPH or KPH, the KPH numbers will be wrong if I specify MPH. If I then travel in Canada, a 60 speed camera in MPH says I won't get warned until 100KPH, thus not very informative.

I suggest you convert all the Canadian speed numbers to MPH. Our metric neighbors then know they need to convert all the camera numbers to the metric equivalent.

I would also like to see the combination cameras listed as a speed camera in the speed camera file and as a redlight camera in the redlight file. My GPS does not know how to process a combination camera.

Direction

In a post awhile back, it was mentioned that there was an effort to incorporate direction of travel into the RL and SC files. I'm wondering if any progress been made with that project as it seems to be the next logical step after the street names. I really like the street name addition to the file and appreciate all the hard work that went into developing the POI file.

We're working on this, and I expect it will be ready to beta test later this summer.

Directional alerts

I have noticed several cameras here in Johnson City, TN that there might be only one/two cameras at the intersection for only that direction. Is the new beta be handling these situations?
